A couple of things I wanted to accomplish on this painting: 1) I wanted to show the light bending around the mountain as the sun is setting behind. You can see this in the way the edge of the mountain almost disappears in the bright light of the sun. 2) I wanted to try a wave with lots of foam patterns. I know that it seems like every artist paints waves breaking with some light coming through the back of the wave, so that is very un-original, but it makes a pretty painting anyway. After the painting was "done", I decided it was too plain, so I added the palm treas and grass in front. It gave the whole painting more personality and perspective.
