Landing Gear
Mounting the landing gear looks more intimidating than it really is. Alignment is a concern, but with help from Richard and advice from another RV-8 builder who had "been there, done that", it went pretty quickly.  The other builder also loaned a couple pieces of aluminum he created to ensure alignment.

The original Vans steel gear legs were deleted from the kit when I ordered it so I could substitute the lighter aluminum gear from Grove.  Supposedly they save 17 pounds.  The original pair I ordered were damaged in transit, so I sent them back.  They were damaged again on the way back, too.  The next pair arrived intact.
A friend with a lathe is a friend indeed.  Fellow builder Tom did me the huge favor of creating a couple of drill bushings to use when installing the landing gear.  They allowed is to drill the bolt holes with a pilot drill to ensure that the full size bit emerged in the correct spot when drilling the final holes.
The gear in place and drilled.  After the picture was taken, the gear came off and went into storage so work on the interior could continue.
