| Being Me. |
| We are currently looking for funding to vist London LGBT groups to run a project around "being gay and being proud" hence the projects name "Being Me". The plan is to run workshops, share ideas and teach performance skills to young gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered people and hopefully perform at a local fringe venue. Lost has done work like this before and wish to re-vist on a larger scale, confrounting issues that effect us as workshope leaders too. Why? In the last decade that there has been recognition that gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender youth (generally defined as ages 15-24) are at an increased risk of suicide compared to other youth. Some studies indicate that the rate of attempted suicide for transgender youth is higher than 50%. It is also estimated that gay, lesbian, and bisexual youth comprise 30% of completed suicides. 97% of students in secondary schools report regularly hearing homophobic remarks from their peers. 80% of gay and lesbian youth report severe social isolation. 19% of gay men and 25% of lesbians report suffering physical violence at the hands of a family members as a result of their sexual orientation. Helping young people like us through drama is our aim. |
