TV HITS- On The Move- August 2002

Scott Cain is Movin' on up! He's just wrapped his Oz promo tour and now he's workin' on his all important follow-up single. TV Hits gets the Popstar treatment...

So how's the vibe for you across Australia?
Wherever I am, I always get a great reception. All the people are just happy to see me. It's so good. I sing and they love it.

So now that your officially a Popstar, how big's your entourage?
Well, it's usually just me and my manager.

Can you tell us about your new single?
It's a love song. It's a really good song. I wrote it.

Have you written alot of stuff before?
No, but it's not hard. It's just like writing a poem and then I get the producers to put music to it, and I put in my little bits and pieces.

What's the biggest difference between your pre and post Popstars life?
There's all these strangers that know who I am. And there are people that walk past you and they look at you and they're thinking, 'There's that guy.'

Have you had any weird fan experiences?
No, it's pretty controlled. There was this one girl and she made these earrings with my picture on them. She gave me one, so now I need to get my ears pierced.

How many autographs do you sign at a time?
Oh, I can only do one at a time. I've done, like thousands, but I'm not really sure.

Does your hand get cramps?
No!

Have you ever thought about simplifying your signature?
No. I've got good initials. It's shaped like a treble clef.

We've got a photo of you fooling around with some air hosties. That flight looks like it was a lot of fun...
Yeah! We were flying from Melbourne to Brissie and I got up and sang over the PA- I've always wanted to do that! I sang Billy Joel's song, The Longest Time, which I sang at the Popstars audition but I changed that lyrics.

How did the passengers react?
[Laughs] Everybody was like, 'Shut up, we're trying to sleep!'

Have there been any funny or embarrassing things that have happened on stage?
Things have been pretty good, actually. I'm killing them! I did this thing at the Sydney Children's Hospital and it was really early in the morning and I hadn't warmed up my voice. The kids were just laughing at me and I was laughing as well. It turned out to be a joke!

What's been the absolute highlight so far?
Going back to Port Macquarie was awesome. There were just so many people that I knew. I dressed up as a headmaster and I went onto the stage dressed up. That was pretty good, I loved that!

Are you a big junk food fan?
No, I try to steer clear of it. I try to eat good stuff like sandwiches and friut. But I can't resist chocolate. It's so hard when it's lying on your hotel bed!

Have you been partying hard while on the road?
Not really. I want to be confused. I don't like to feel rundown. So I don't like to party hard.

Are you feeling alot of pressure about your next single?
Yeah, a little bit, but I'm sure it'll take off.

Are you going to stay with your Pop sound?
Yeah, but I'd like to throw a bit more soul in. I like it really funky.
