Assignments DS 099

Oral Presentation

It is time to begin thinking about your oral presentations. These presentations will take place over the last five class periods. It is important, not only to give a presentation, but to pay attention to presentations given by your classmates. (Questions about them may appear on the final!)

Assignment:

Requirements:

Five to seven minutes in length (this does not include answering questions people might have).

Eye contact. Do not stand up and read the entire presentation from a piece of paper or note cards.

Be polite. Pay attention to those that are presenting, and extend to him/her the same courteousness you expect from those listening to you.

Look presentable

Suggestions:

Visual aides. These help take the focus off of you, and help the listener to understand what you are speaking about. Past visual aides have included videos, cd's, articles of clothing, books, pictures/photographs, etc.

Handouts. You may wish to give your audience something to read/look at while you are presenting, or something they can keep and review in the future. Past handouts have included pictures, information, etc.

Possible Topics:

Tattoos
Body Piercings
Cell Phones
Video Games
Music
Fashion (Clothing Styles)
Reality Television Shows

Same Sex Marriages
Single Parent Adoption

Due Dates:

Topic must be chosen by Tuesday, 11/1
Freewrite by Tuesday, 11/8
3 Sources day of presentation

The last five classes have been reserved for presentations. Your actual date of presentation will be decided by a random selection. Once you have picked your due date, you are expected to be prepared to present on that day. Failure to present will result in an F for this portion of your overall grade.

Failure to show up on days you are not presenting will result in your presentation grade being lowered one half letter grade for each day you miss!
