Thunder is rolling down the coast, the waves are breaking furiously beneath dark clouds, and the local independant radio station is playing the blues. There is no joy here in Kerry land. Yesterday, the American people had thier say. Almost 60 million Americans turned out to give The Bush Administration the greatest popular vote in history. The Republican party tightened thier stranglehold over all 3 branches of government. Minutes after Bush's acceptance speech, Wall Street rallied, driven by the defense sector. Reminds me of something I overheard someone say once. When Fascism comes to America, they'll call it Americanism.

I wonder if this is how Hunter S. Thompson felt in 1972 when Nixon carried 49 states. Now is the time to quote the good doctor: "Who votes for these dishonest shitheads? Who among us can be happy and proud of all this innocent blood on our hands? Who are these swine? These flag-sucking half-wits who get fleeced and fooled by stupid little rich kids like George Bush? They are the same ones who wanted to have Mohammed Ali locked up for refusing to kill gooks. They speak for all that is cruel and stupid and vicious in the American character. They are the racists and the hate-mongers among us- they are the Ku Klux Klan. I piss down the throats of these Nazis. And I am too old to worry about whether they like it or not. Fuck them."

Maybe I'm just a pessimist, but I have a bad feeling about the future. Waves of fear and loathing. Maybe it's because the economy is rigged and the oil is running out. Maybe it's because one more major terrorist attack is all it will take to send this nation over the abyss for good. Maybe it's because of the storm raging outside or the fact that my bank account is $100 overdrawn and I can't make the rent. Maybe it's because I'm 27 and I work at Blockbuster Video. Maybe it's because I haven't had a date in a while. But at this moment I feel the need to leave the country and try something new. I've been spinning my wheels for 10 years and I'm bored with life and disappointed with my options.

But why am I sliding into all of this negativity? Maybe four more years of control by neoconservative imperialists and thier fanatic religious supporters is just what this little republic needs to give it a swift kick in the arse. Makes for a more interesting newspaper at the least.
