The Blake family in our line descends from John Thorne Blake of Dorchester; the brother of James who married the Deacon Clapp & Merchant Clapp family (Blake & Clapp names are on the oldest surviving houses in Dorchester, Ma.) The Blakes , occasionally Blak & Black in their history; interrelate by their father William to the merchant family of Admiral Blake; and that Admiral's brother became Goveror of the Caroli during the Commonwealth. That accounts too, for our Blakes periodic 17th century runs to Virginia & North & South Carolina. The Thorne name is for John Blake's mother Agnes Thorne; whose family settled in Plymouth & Mass Bay Colony & Long Island. Our Guild ancestry here by Blake marriage; brought the marriage of Guild & Fisher.
