Micro-Tech convinced its ally WorldComm to invent a dispute with GeoBank
over access to the global HyperNet as a pretext
to begin the Great Corporate War; their true purpose was to get revenge
against Gen-Tech after learning they were the source
of the disinformation sparking the Second Corporate War.
Orbital Technologies discovered the "Fallen Angels" while still in outer
space during the Great Corporate War. The aliens
wiped out nearly every OTU facility in space, bankrupting the corporation.
Gen-Tech secretly stepped in, bought out OTU,
and has run the company ever since.
Under Gen-Tech ownership, remaining OTU space weapons downed a single
"Fallen Angel" and crashed it into Antarctica,
causing the Great Impact.
Gen-Tech recovered the "Fallen Angel" from Antarctica and brought it
back to Tokyo for research. Exactly one year after the
first impact, the Second Great Impact destroyed Tokyo. Gen-Tech claimed
that it was another huge comet, like the one that
supposedly caused the Great Impact.
Gen-Tech keeps the truth behind the Second Impact a closely guarded
secret. Only the highest ranks of the corporation are
given the secret story—that the Second Great Impact was accidentally
caused during research on the "Fallen Angel" when it
suddenly self-destructed. Only the Corporate Board of Seven knows the
truth—that Gen-Tech set off the explosion
purposefully to spread the energy signal of the "Fallen Angel" around
the earth as their first step in a plan to reshape human
DNA.
Gen-Tech’s goal is "Directive Hyper-Evolution" (D.H.E.): to redesign
humanity in just a few generations using the breathtaking
energy of the "Fallen Angels" and their advanced DNA. Gen-Tech believes
a cyber-enhanced human species linked to their
control by a collective consciousness is the earth’s only hope against
alien invasion.
In 2087 Micro-Tech agents infiltrated Gen-Tech African facilities and
stole ambiguous D.H.E. secrets. Misinterpreting the
Gen-Tech research as an attempt to create an even more powerful wave
of New-style Androids, Micro-Tech used this stolen
data to create a computer virus to "awaken" New-style Android AIs to
full sentience. Their hope was to use the awakened
androids to trump Gen-Tech power.
The New-style Androids awakened by the Micro-Tech virus quickly spread
it to other androids—starting with the New-style
Androids in the Micro-Tech corporation. Some sentient androids were
set loose in cities, attacking humans seemingly at
random to mask the secret take-over of Micro-Tech facilities by the
awakened androids. By 2091, all Micro-Tech executives
had been replaced by android doubles.
The android-run Micro-Tech is vaguely aware of the D.H.E. and the "Fallen
Angels". Believing the sentient New-style
Androids are the highest life form, Micro-Tech supports the Android
Rebellion to destroy Gen-Tech, D.H.E., and all of
humanity.
The Android Rebellion is a network of "awakened" New-style Androids
who share a hive mind. Breaking with Micro-Tech,
they deciphered the "Fallen Angel" message in 2094 and set out to awaken
other New-style Androids—paving the way to join
with "The Source" (their name for the Fallen Angels) when it arrives
in 2096.
NATO has been aware of the "Fallen Angels" ever since the defecting
scientist revealed the origins of the technology behind
cybertech. Task Force Saber’s secret purpose is as the first line of
defense against the coming alien invasion. Only humans
conceived after the Second Great Impact can achieve "special" or better
cybertech compatibility. The Second Great Impact
irradiated all living humans so that the chromosomes of their future
generations would have the necessary energy signature of
"Fallen Angel" DNA. The NATO General Staff understands this, but does
not know who was behind the Second Great
Impact or how it was achieved.
General Kohl and Dr. Miller know of D.H.E. and try to cover it up, fearful
humanity is not ready for the truth; Task Force
Saber will be prepared to fight the alien threat they know will be
arriving soon.
The "Fallen Angel" downed in 2070 was one of these clones, part of a
small reconnaissance force sent by the mechanoid
leaders into the earth system. During the battle against the space
weapons of Orbital Technologies, the alien scouts sent a
distress signal back to the mechanoid leaders. Limited to the speed
of light, the message would not be received until 2096.
Gen-Tech intercepted the signal, as did NATO. Gen-Tech immediately understood
what it was, stepping up the D.H.E.
project in hopes of advancing humanity before any additional "Fallen
Angels" could arrive. NATO was not able to decipher the
alien message until 2095—the first reason for the creation of Task
Force Saber.
New waves of Aleerin Scouts will begin arriving in 2096; the first wave
of Soldiers will arrive in 2097. Their goal—destroy
humanity and make earth their new base.
