Androids are robots combined with AI. Every android has a processor planted inside. The processor quality determines the android’s human-like abilities (Intelligence, Will, and Personality). The processor also determines how many slots of active memory are available. Each broad skill and each rank level take up one slot while in use; slots may be reassigned, but making changes takes one action. All unarmed damage done to an android is downgraded one step unless inflicted by a called shot to a sensitive area.

Primitive androids existed before the Great Impact. They are basically robots with no better than Good processors. They are not very human-like in behavior or appearance. Many corporations produce primitive androids.

Old-style androids came out shortly after the Great Impact and provided the bulk of the labor required for the next few years. Gen-Tech, followed shortly by Micro-Tech, produced huge numbers of old-style androids. They have only Marginal processors.

New-style androids appeared within two years after the Second Great Impact. Produced at first only by Gen-Tech, and by Micro-Tech after 2087, they replaced old-style androids for those who could afford them. They have Ordinary or Good processors.

Awakened androids did not appear until 2087, when Micro-Tech implanted new-style androids with its adapted D.H.E. virus. Awakened androids share a weak collective consciousness through the Hypernet. Only they may have Amazing processors.

Project M7

Ever since the First Corporate War of 2051, Gen-Tech has conducted extensive research into human genetic engineering. The first five research series (M1 through M5) failed, but valuable data gained from the D.H.E. project made the M6 mutations viable. Throughout the 2090s, Gen-Tech has secretly been abducting entire villages from trouble spots around the world. Evidence is planted to frame other corporations for the attacks, and the captured civilians are used for secret M7 research. The goal of M7 is to create "alternative conceptions" for the human species after D.H.E. is fully achieved. Gen-Tech plans to unleash a controlled mutant army in North America to fight the rebel androids.

M6 could only produce mutants conceived in the laboratory. With M7, normal humans can be infected with a retro-virus which causes mutations to occur within 24-72 hours. Each M7 subject is an individual, uniquely bio-engineered mutant. While the retro-virus determines which DNA will be infused, the effects are still unpredictable—no one can be sure which features will manifest themselves in the subject.
