The SuperTrucks put on one of the best races in recent memory. Outside-polesitter Alan Carter got a good start when the green flag flew, beating Steve Pendergrass to the line on the first lap. But Pendergrass wanted to lead, and on lap three moved to the inside of Carter and the two were side by side at the line. Behind the two leaders, Scott Borchetta and Willie Allen were running side by side for third, with Mike Barrett a close fifth.
By lap ten the top five had settled down to Carter, Pendergrass, Borchetta, Barrett, and Allen. Borchetta looked outside Pendergrass on the 11th lap, but had to fall back in line. On lap 17, Pendergrass took a peek to the inside of Carter, but couldnt make the pass.
At the halfway point of the 50-lap race, the top five of Carter, Pendergrass, Barrett, Borchetta, and Allen were all running nose to tail. Lap 29 saw Allen riding the bumper of Borchetta on the front stretch, which got Borchetta loose going into turn one. Allen moved to the inside of Borchetta but couldnt complete the pass and had to fall back in line.
The racing for fourth allowed the top three of Carter, Pendergrass, and Barrett to pull away by 5 car lengths by lap 35. On lap 37 Pendergrass again tried the inside line on Carter, and this time was able to make the pass stick. Barrett followed Pendergrass and took over the second spot.
On lap 42 Barrett took a look inside Pendergrass, but a spin on the front stretch brought out the only caution of the race. When the green came back out, Pendergrass, Barrett, and Carter pulled away from fourth place Scott Fetcho by four truck lengths.
The leaders continued to battle for position, with Barrett pulling up to the inside of Pendergrass. The top two ran side by side until lap 47 when they both got out of shape in turn two. Carter in third was able to capitalize on their mistake and assume the lead. Carter went on to get his second win in a row, with Barrett second, Pendergrass third, Fetcho fourth, and Ricky Bolden fifth. In post-race inspections, Fetcho was disqualified (see note below), moving Bolden to fourth.
Carter assumes the points lead from Scott Fetcho, with Ricky Bolden in second, David Matheny, Jr. third, Mike Barrett fourth, and Steve Pendergrass fifth.
Note from Scott Payne : Scott Fetcho was disqualified for a small infraction of the carburator (no numbers stamped on the body).
