HTML Lesson #
8: Frames (Yes I said FRAMES!)
Frames are one of those things
people either love or hate. You may find
them to be a great tool or your worst nightmare…whichever camp you are in….go
through the lesson and become aware of how FRAMES work. It will make you a more
sensitive web designer and give you greater ability to do problem solving with
HTML code.
Step one:
Open NOTEPAD.
Step two:
Go to this frames tutorial
http://www.yourhtmlsource.com/frames/basicframes.html.
Read each part and copy the code into a separate
NOTEPAD file. Save the NOTEPAD file as “Frames1.html, Frames2.html,
etc. View each document in your browser after each section of the tutorial.
Step three:
Create a new file for each of
the html pages required to make the links in your frames work. This will
include: nav.html; content.html; a.html; and.html; easy.html; as.html; 1.html;
2.html; 3.html.
Save all the files, including
“framesl.html” files, in a folder named “frames”.
Step four:
Upload the files to your Yahoo
web space….but you need to create the new subfolder first. Here’s how:
A. Go to the file manager
B. At the bottom of the file
list, there is a yellow folder with the word “subdirectories” and a NEW button
right below it. Click on the NEW button.
C. In the box that appears you
will type the name of the new folder, which is “frames”, then click on create
subdirectory.
There you have it! Now open the new folder…and it is empty! You can now upload all the files you just
created into the “frames” folder.
Finally, create a link on your
homepage that lets me open up your frames lesson. NOTE: Make sure you include
the “frames” folder in the link address.
Test the links and make sure
everything works.
Step five:
Send an email to [email protected] and let me know Lesson #8 is completed.
