Lesson # 5- Viewing, copying, and modifying source code

Step1:

Find 3 websites that you like…not search engines and sites like AOL, MSN, etc. Either write down the addresses or add them to your favorites.

Step 2:

Use the View, source feature of the browser to see the HTML code of one page on each of the 3 sites.

Step 3:

Look at the code and find the required elements (HTML, Title, Head, Body).

Step 4:

Find at least 3 tags from each of the 3 sites that are new to you or that look cool.

Step 5:

Copy the code from each site and paste it all into a NOTEPAD file.  Save it on the desktop as “codeplay.html”

Step 6:

Open the “codeplay.html” file in your browser and see what it looks like.  Does it look the same as the original site: If not, can you tell why?

Step 7:

Make some changes (at least change 5 or 6 lines) to the text and/or code as you wish, save it, and look at it in the browser.

Step 8:

Upload the modified “codeplay.html” to your web space and make a link on your home page. Test the link to make sure it works.

Step 9:

Send an email to [email protected] notifying me that you have completed Lesson #5 and that the link is finished and working.
