HTML Lesson 4

Creating a simple html page with a CSS (Cascading Style Sheet)

Step 1: Creating a CSS

For this lesson we will learn from the experts at W3C. Go to http://www.w3.org/Style/Examples/011/firstcss and complete the instructions.

Step 2: Upload your file

When you are finished, upload your file “mypage.html” to your website (See HTML Lesson 3).

Step 3: Adding a Link to your “mypage.html” file

  1. Log on to your Yahoo web space (see HTML lesson 3)
  2. Open your file manager.
  3. Click the box in front of your “index.html” file.
  4. Look above or below the file list and find the word “EDIT” and click on it.  You will now be in the edit mode so you can change or create new HTML code.
  5. Create a link to the “mypage.html” file on your “index.html” page. HINT: Copy one of your other links and change the name of the file to “mypage.html”.
  6. Save your changes and test it using the preview option.
  7. Make any needed changes to solve any problems.

Step 4: Turn in your work

Send an email [email protected] informing me that you have completed Lesson # 4 and that it is ready for grading.

Congratulations. You have created a CSS (Cascading Style Sheet).

Advanced Options: If you have additional time, I suggest you go back to the W3C site at the beginning of the lesson and do some reading and exploring on CSS. You can also spend some time developing your own CSS.
