HTML Lesson 3

Creating and Uploading files to your web space.

Step 1: Create your “index.html” file

Set up your “index.html” page as you want it to appear on your website. This is your “Home Page” that is the first thing I…or anyone else…will see on your website. HINT: Keep it simple! You may use the file from the last lesson, or create a new page.

When you have completed your work and are happy with what you have done, save the file as index.html.

Step 2: Upload the file

Open your browser and go to http://geocities.yahoo.com/

Sign in to your website. (Type in your user name and password)

On the right side of the screen find:

 File Manager
 Subdirectories, HTML editing...”

And click there.  This will bring up the file manager page.

Click on

Click on “UPLOAD FILES”.

Next, you see a series of address bars with “Browse” next to them.  Click on the first Browse, and then find the “index.html” file you just created. When your file (with it’s full address) appears in the address window, you click on UPLOAD and…Horray! You have uploaded your index.html file to your website.

Step 3: Check out and adjust your work

Now you want to click on “FILE MANAGER” again and look at the list of files in your web space.  You should see “index.html” in the list.

To the right of the index.html is the word “VIEW”…Click on it to see what your file will look like.  If you are happy with what you see….close the window and move on…if not…make some changes as needed.

Now would be a good time to “explore” a little with the tools available on your Yahoo web server.  Don’t try anything wild and crazy…but do a little exploring…it’s a great way to learn.  Ask questions of peers and the teacher as needed.

When you are done exploring (at least for now), log out of your Yahoo account and move on to the next lesson.

Step 4: Turn in your work

Send an email to [email protected] to let me know that you have completed HTML Lesson 3.

Great work!  You’ve come a long ways already…and the fun is just beginning.  You are ready to move on to HTML Lesson 4.
