VISIT SCOTLAND
WEBQUEST

Introduction

As employees of a reputable travel firm you have been asked to an in-depth information report on 6 Scottish regions aimed at attracting tourists to this country. Your team must create an effective, informative, creative and original report. Each team member will take on a special role and focus on different items about your chosen regions.

Task

Each member of your group must gather information, and after discussion with other team members, choose to feature only those facts that will appeal to potential visitors.   Use plenty of persuasive and descriptive language.  Using all available publishing tools, add clip art, word art, scanned or digital photos, and various fonts and type, while designing a clear and visually appealing layout. Each member of the group will take one of the following roles:  Historian, Tour Guide, Recreation/Cultural Events Planner, Weather Consultant, or Road Guide.   The brochure must contain these items for each role:

Item One:  Historian

o       Historical facts and events of interest

o       Places of historic interest and facilities offered to visitors (guides in several languages etc.)

Item Four:  Weather Consultant

  • Climate by month
  • Best time to travel

o       How to dress for the weather

Item Two:  Tour Guide

  • Tourist attractions (non-historical)
  • Points of interest

o       Places not to miss

Item Five:  Travel Guide

  • Transport directions from 8 European countries to your regions
  • Travel directions and distances to special landmarks, places of interest, towns and cities within the regions

o       Two or more ways to travel within your regions

ItemThree: Recreation/Cultural
      Events Planner

  • Recreation
  • Cultural events
  • Sports
  • Parks

o       Unique qualities and trivia

Item Six:  Geographer

  • Outline the shape of the regions – mark capital city and major landmarks
  • Show what other regions or bodies of water borders your region

o       Make a key for the capital, major cities, lakes, rivers, mountains, or other points of interest

Conclusion

By now you have learned much about the regions of Scotland and how to work as a team member.  Were you happy with your final product?  What would you do differently next time?  Which region was the most popular destination of choice by other classmates and parents?  Was this due to that group's effective advertising in their brochure?  What other factors might have influenced their decisions?  Apply what you have learned to your next project.
