Does the SSP drain support primarily from Labour or the SNP? - from Scotia 31/10/00
Compare and contrast Glasgow Pollok with Glasgow Springburn and Glasgow Shettleston in Scottish election last year:-
Link to the Glasgow Pollok 1999 Scottish Election ResultIt's safe to say those are fairly similar areas demographically in socioeconomic and religious terms but Pollok is the SSP epicentre as that's where Tommy Sheridan first beat Labour at the local council level as a Scottish Militant Labour candidate back in the anti-poll tax days. SNP, Lib Dem and Tory support across these three constituencies is almost the same in the 25-27%, 4-6% and 5-7% range. Only Labour and SSP support fluctuates wildly thanks to the fact that the SSP undoubtedly focussed its efforts primarily on Tommy Sheridan's seat.
