Spirit
Ground

Find a quiet place, without distractions, either outside, or in  a fairly open room.  Remove shoes and socks, if desired.

Either stand, weight equally balanced, or lie down on your back.  Close your eyes.

Start as if preparing to sleep: slow your breathing, relax, and allow your mind to go out of focus.  As thoughts and issues enter your mind, allow them to flitter through without focusing on them.  After a few moments, your mind should be calm and open.

Either your feet or your spine is in contact with the earth.  Focus on these contact points, and imagine your energy reaching gently through these points, into the ground itself.

Visualize a circle of energy, a circular path of energy, flowing between your self and the earth, and back again.  Maintain this image until the flow feels constant.

As you feel the power of the earth flowing through you, allow it to slowly fill and permeate your body.  You may notice that the feel of the flow, its rhythm, may mimic your own heartbeat a slow, steady thrumming that, when you focus upon it, will pull your heartbeat into its rhythm.

Center

As you ground, and the energy flows through you at a constant, slow pace, allow yourself to become aware of the center of your self, where the energy beats within you, but there is a central core.  This is generally considered to be located just a couple of inches above the base of the spine.  Think of this place as your point of energy transfer, where your energy flows out and the earths energy flows in.

Keep your mind quiet and open, focusing without force on the energy within you.

Your points of contact with the earth, perhaps your whole body, may feel tingly and shivery, or warm and very still.  Either is normal, and indicates that the flow of energy is constant.

Focus

Begin to narrow in on that center of energy within you.  Visualize that energy as a sphere, and slowly move it up your chest by way of your spine.  Keep drawing the sphere up, slowly, until it reaches your forehead.  Begin to tighten the ball, shrinking it, making it denser, until its circumference is about the size of a quarter.

Consciously hold his energy, allowing any extra overflow to return to the earth, filtering it gently back, through your points of physical contact.  Slowly, slowly, open your eyes, holding your image of focused energy, keeping your mind quiet and open.

As you do this, you may feel a tingling at the top of your head.  You are very likely to feel a pressure build-up or a sense of an outpouring of energy at your forehead.

With these three steps (ground, center, focus) you will have reached a state in which much of your spiritual work takes place.  Through the forehead, you can form and direct energy in many ways.  By refocusing on your center, you can venture within yourself for self-healing, seeking answers to deeper issues, developing an instinctive affinity with the elements, and much more.  Through the top of your head, you can travel, which includes Akashic record research, astral projection, and so on.
