Day 13,

August 4th, 2003.

Carson City

Today I am staying in Carson City. It’s time to rest better and I have many things to do in the library.

That’s where I was heading now. I asked someone where the local library was, and when I rode to it, the library turned out to be closed. From 8 to 10 I had to wait and find something to do.

I rode around and stopped at the grocery store, to see if there were any good deals on food.

They did have a special on canned mandarins – something like 4 cans for a dollar.

I bought one but didn’t like the taste very much. I guess they were dried up and were suppose to be used as a desert for something else.

I looked around some the town some more and returned to the library, where it turned out that they charged to use the Internet. Of course I didn’t want to pay for it and decided to go to local college, try to find computers in college library.

This took me a while, as the campus was on the completely opposite side of town and I had to first ride north and the west, climbing a little but nasty hill that was going to campus.

Along the way, I saw another grocery store that is known for its very low prices – Save A Lot.

There I got some delicious yogurts, which were getting out of date today, but were 6 for a dollar. J

I also bought a 3 pound bag of mixed nuts with fruits. This is something very energy/weight efficient and I might use it in the desert ahead. I also bought a couple of pound bag of kiss chocolate candies, each wrapped in foil paper. Along with few fruits, it made a wonderful snack.

When I got to college, it was quite there and I didn’t see any students. They must have had a summer brake or something.

Before going to the library, I walked into a new built building, which was supposed to include gym inside. The college is actually very tiny and they didn’t have separate coliseum or fitness center.

Well, after looking around the building, I finally found a BEAUTIFUL locker room in the basement, which already finished showers with running water. I took the best shower in two weeks and made sure I left nothing before leaving.

Then I spent about 6 hours in the library until it closed at 5. Sitting in the air conditioned building, writing and answering e-mails, looking at upcoming roads and pictures, seemed like a real paradise to me.

After the library closed, I rode back to the town. I bought more food for the future and set a while in Mc Donald’s enjoying an ice-cream cone and writing notes for this journal. The remaining time of the evening, I stopped at some other stores, rode around looking at nice historic buildings and returned to the same place.

The night passed uneventfully and in the morning I was feeling fresh and full of NRG.

Today – 0 miles on odometer, about 15 miles riding around town.
