Footpath - Route 5: Open Grass Fields
The path is easily distinguishable here, since the constant foot traffic has carved a way through the surrounding grass. The dirt is well-packed and devoid of any large rocks. When it rains, the dirt turns in to a caked mud. During drought, it is dry and dusty. The carpets of green grass and mixed weeds cover the landscape in eastern and western directions, getting noticeably taller only a few feet from the path, where it apparently hasn't been cut for a long time. The weedy overgrowth prevents anyone from seeing if pokemon live around here or not. As the path heads farther north, trees become more and more common. Eventually, those trees meld into a forest, and the path heads right into it.

+weather
The sky is cloudy grey, and nothing casts a shadow. The southwest wind is mild. In the forest, the wind rustles the bright green leaves of trees and bushes and carries Oddish pollen, downy seeds, and the fragrance of wildflowers along with it. While at the coast, rain pitters lightly on the deep grey ocean, and the waves are small.
It isn't the most perfect day for intercity travel, but it isn't bad either. The overcast sky makes the landscape look drab and dull, so Rick has no plans on stopping for sightseeing. The cheeky trainer is heading northwards, in the direction of Cerulean, accompanied by only one pokemon. Zack, the little muscle-bound blue powerhouse struts in his own way a few paces ahead of his trainer, saying nothing for once. He seems to be leaving his trainer alone for some reason, perhaps because Rick looks as glum as the weather today. His usual cheerful smile is gone, replaced by a rather forlorn expression, and his steps no longer have their usual spring. Something has caused Rick to lose his characteristic spark, that little glimmer of cheekiness and mischief that was always present in his eyes.
The overcast sky is hung with thick, oppresive clouds that dull the landscape. The grasses stand about the path, watching the travellers silently. There are no shadows, giving everything a lifeless, sickly appearance. If Rick looks carefully, he'll notice the soft humming of something or other... Somewhere off in the distance, amidst the weedy overgrowth that lines the road towards the north. The dirt is soft, well padded down here...
Zack looks back at the trainer and he stops, folding his arms and turning around to face the boy, blocking his path. <Come on buddy! Cheer up! I can't go on with you looking like this! Where's your spark gone?> "... I think I left it at the breeding center..." the human replies, giving a weak smile at his feeble attempt at humor. <Listen. If I understand you as well as I think I do, you wanted something to look forward to, yes? Well, you -have- got something to look forward to! When you go back, Prince will be there waiting for you, and with a couple of little somethings waiting with him! Now just cheer up! Prince wouldn't want you to be unhappy!> Zack finishes, with a decisive nod. "You're acting strange Zack. You'd never try to cheer me up like this. Do I look -that- bad to you?" the trainer asks, to which the Machop only nods. "Sheesh... But yeah, you're right, I guess..." The boy gives another smile, this time making it appear more convincing. Although the pair have stopped, it seems they are too focused on each other to notice the humming, but they aren't going anywhere anytime soon.
The humming stops as a certain someone hears the two quibbling. Two yellow foxlike ears appear first beneath the weeds... Then a little forehead... Two slitted eyes are watching the Machop and his boy. The clouds seem to hang ever thicker in the air as time passes. As Rick approaches, the psychic begins to quietly meditate, readying herself for... a Teleport maybe? Whatever she's doing, she's going to be absolutely silent until Rick draws into range. She hums a little, then stops, realizing this is a stealth job. She does seem a bit interested as Zack and Rick mention the breeding center, but the Abra seems to be focusing on her vict-Er, new friend. If they look, she's perfectly visible, but the girl is relying on the fact that the two are arguing right now...
<Come on! You can do better than just a weak smile! What was that saying I heard? 'Laughter is the best medicine', or something like that. Come on! What did the Squirtle say to the other Squirtle when parting? We shell meet again!> Zack grins, attempting to bring a smile to the young boy's face. Upon hearing the awful joke, Rick's left hand meets his forehead with a slap, and he covers his eyes. Rick's mouth seems to be trying not to widen into a grin, and he just manages to stifle a snicker. "Oh my... that was awful, Zack!" he confirms, although the Machop's plan seems to have worked, as Rick begins to chuckle quietly. <Don't blame me, -you- taught me that one!> Zack laughs. Again, the pair seem too engrossed in their little conversation to notice the Abra sneaking up on them, which might work to her advantage.
The sky is cloudy grey, and nothing casts a shadow. The southwest wind is mild.
The Abra smiles softly from her vantage point. Well, the Machop seems thick enough... Her slitted eyes narrow even more, if that's possible. She wriggles her slender fingers, and as soon as they're near, she disappears and reappears before Rick in a flash. <Yoink!> She reaches out to beep his nose with one paw, but she looks slightly smaller than the average Abra. A teenage Abra? Then again, would Rick really notice since he's being poked in the nose if he doesn't move? She tries to float back after her poke, but it's a clumsy retreat. If Rick were to grab, she'd be unable to escape, too busy giggling over her latest exploit.
Rick just jumps in surprise as he becomes a prank victim instead of the creator, and he takes a step backwards. "Ow! Hey, Yuri! Get back in your ball!" Rick tries once again to stop himself from laughing, and with his Machop chuckling too, this isn't an easy task. For a second, Rick stops to take a closer look at the Abra, but he doesn't make a grab for her, as he isn't the kind to do that. "Wait a second... You're not Yuri, you're... A girl?" Rick looks surprised as he deduces this from the Abra's actions and tone of voice. After being around a male Abra for so long, Rick has come to realize that boy's don't giggle, let alone male Abras. Zack stops laughing for a second, only to give Rick a wink and a nod towards the boy's belt. Rick quickly winks back, and he removes a pokeball from his belt, his face a picture of mischief. He can obviously imagine what it would be like if the Abra met a female of his species. Without saying a word, the trainer activates the ball, releasing his own psychic pokemon into the real world once more. A red flash of light and the Abra emerges, looking around curiously. He obviously senses the female's presence immediately, as he swings around to face her, looking up at the hovering pokemon with his own feet planted firmly on the ground.
A port in a storm, a home away from home. We're (saved)!
The Abra giggles and just floats back, looking quite jesterly as her tiny head bobs. <Yuri huh? Who's Yuri? I want to know who Yu- Well, duh, I'm a girl,> She folds her paws across her chest. She watches with no end of bemusement as the boy tries to hang onto the fact that she's /female/ and not a male. She doesn't stop giggling for long as she watches the pair try to straighten themselves out. She does pause for a breath as Rick removes his pokeball, though she does seem more amused than ever at Rick's mischievous expression. Can he outprank a psychic? She tilts her head, watching Yuri from above. She seems to have a good focus, if nothing else. <Helloooo there! Let me guess, you must be Yuri, huh?> She thinks on her feet, for sure. The female Abra speaks in a sugary sweet, almost chirpy voice, but she sounds just as intelligent, if not more so than average. Of course, intelligent and clever may be two different things in this case and she watches the male of her species a moment, then rises a moment, almost hopping. <Sooooo, how's the weather? I predict major showers of stupid!> She titters even more, seemingly amused to no end.
Yuri seems slightly irritated by the other Abra's comments, but he seems slightly less annoyed than normal, probably due to the fact that she's of the same species. <Of course I'm Yuri! That's Yuri the -Great- to you!> he announces, folding his arms. Almost as an afterthought, he rises into the air too, as if his words are meaningless coming from down on the ground. In a second, he is floating level with the female, fixing her with a steely expression. <Showers of stupid? Perhaps that's because of the approaching irritating front. It seems to be coming from that way, I sense,> he says in his most 'hit me now' voice, pointing to the horizon behind the female. Unlike his counterpart, Yuri doesn't show the slightest sign of amusement, although this doesn't mean he isn't amused by the whole scene. It is certain that both Rick and Zack are, but they both remain quiet (apart from the occasional stifled snicker), just watching the two Abra.
The female looks completely unruffled by Yuri's comments and just peers at him levelly. <Yuri the Great Dumbar- Eh, maybe!> She beams slightly. <You're all turned around,> She coos condescendingly. She points at him. <The clouds of moron seem to be gathering... that way!> She folds her arms across her chest. <But then again, it's not really nice to have a battle of wits with an unarmed opponent, is it?> She decides to let her kindness infuriate Yuri more than poking at him ever would. <Who's the dynamic dummy duo with ya? They look fun!> She chirps, doing her best to enrage Yuri further by ignoring his 'great' status. The female seems to be a little bit of everything wrapped up into one psychic bundle. She can maintain concentration to float, but can't keep a conversation on track... Or is it just a game? She keeps absolutely level with Yuri, refusing to back down.
Yuri? Infuriated? Perhaps, but he isn't showing it at all. <Never underestimate an apparently unarmed opponent. They may be in possession of a concealed weapon,> he smirks, determined not to let the female get the better of him. His head tilts forwards slightly, giving the impression of his eyes looking out from under a low brow. <These two are just simpletons, although they do have their uses, such as...> here, he Teleports right next to the Machop's head, giving him a quick poke to the temple. <A target to practice against...> he Teleports again, right above Rick's left shoulder, <Or a mount, with the best view for minimal energy!> Here, he lowers to the human's shoulder, landing with a bump. "I do have a name you know, Yuri! I'm Rick, and this is Zack," the trainer introduces himself to the Abra, while Zack just continues to smirk, imagining the two Abras as a match made in hell.
<A concealed weapon when there is nowhere to conceal it? Truly odd,> She admits quietly, feeling as though she's getting the upper hand. Then she waggles a finger at the male Abra. <Now, now, that's not nice... They're more than simpletons, they're...> She pauses for effect, <... Peons! (Nothing personal, of course.)> She tilts her head. <Well, I guess you've got a point...> She puts a paw to her chin. <You're lazy, I /like/ floating,> she keeps hovering just to spite Yuri. As Rick dispenses names, she waves to each. <Hiya, Rick and Zack. What're you doin' here? This is my stomping ground, you know,> She inquires, then looks to Yuri. <Especially when you bring bad weather with you!> She alludes to the earlier joke of stupid and storms. Oh well... She stops hovering, then lands on the ground, sitting a moment and sighs softly. <Besides, the air up there smells just awful now,> She complains softly, and looks up at Yuri knowingly.
<Not lazy, sensible. There is no point in using your own energy when you can use someone else's instead!> Yuri smirks, determined to prove his point. <I would advise getting a mount of your own. Of course, they can be tough to handle, and you need to make sure they don't get into trouble, but it's worth it!> Yuri says, looking down on the female as she decends. Rick chuckles at the constant battle of wits that seems to be going on, and for once, Yuri seems to be losing. "We're on our way to the tournament in Cerulean! Birds and Bees!" he chuckles, seeming to refer to some hidden joke about this entire scenario. Zack seems to be on the same wavelength, as he continues to grin knowingly.
<OOC> Abra says "Eh, +throw please. I want to see how she replies. ^^"
Rick throws a pokeball...
...and it works.
<OOC> Rick cheers! Yay!
<OOC> Abra yays!
A port in a storm, a home away from home. We're (saved)!
<Sounds like someone's got a case of the lazies,> The female yawns, totally steamrollering Yuri's attempts to prove his point and starts floating into the air. <Oh? You're into that stuff with mounts and whatnot? What do they call it now... bondage would it be? Oh, I'm too bothered to think about that,> She peers at Yuri levelly. As Rick mentions Birds and Bees, her little face lights up evilly. <Oh, I guess you would have to teach him about that sort of stuff huh?> She sticks her tongue out at Yuri. <After all, he seems confused. Well, I guess you'll need me to help keep him in line! You just don't know how to handle battles of wits, but that's okay. I can!> She beams helpfully at Rick and Zack. Anything to annoy Yuri...
The sky is cloudy grey, and nothing casts a shadow. The southwest wind is mild.
Rick just smirks as the female keeps beating back the attempts of Yuri, besting him every time. The trainer seems to like her way of thinking, as he just laughs. Oddly, he doesn't seem offended by the mention of bondage. Clearly, Rick knows far more than he probably should at his age. "Well, he still needs a bit of educating. He's not as clever as he'd like to think!" he grins. "Well, you're welcome to come along, you'll probably do Yuri's job better!" Yuri just glares at the human for a second, but he seems to have got used to Rick's teasing ways. <I'll be more prepared next time, you can be sure! You caught me on an off day! I am at least your equal in a clash of wits, you'll see!> the Abra says levelly. Zack doesn't look disappointed by the addition of another psychic to Rick's team, perhaps he can see this one as being better than the first.
The female seems pleased that /someone/ has some respect for her. She just hums softly, and nods as Yuri complains about being on an off day. <Well, you can't really call it an off day when it's every day, can you?> She inquires of the more irritable male. <You're just losing!> She giggles again, then wags a finger. <Well, if this is a standard day of battle at arms, you'll need an army to catch up to my wits, sweetie!> She revels in her victories, each one a savory moment to enjoy. <Well, alrighty! Wait, he has a job? Besides large mass occupying space and wasting air? Huh, that's news to me,> She shrugs slightly. Once Rick starts off down the route again, the female psychic will float along after, using each thrust of Yuri's witty offense to her advantage. She seems to have the sharper sword here... <Thank you! This should be fun,> She hums happily as she follows, blissfully ignoring Yuri, save when he opens his mouth.
Staff Note: This female Abra is witty, sharp, and very cunning. She enjoys a good prank as much as anyone, however, if she's on the receiving end of a prank, she'll be a very, very vengeful Abra. Otherwise, she's very friendly towards Rick and Zack, but she'll do almost anything to annoy Yuri, just because she can. And he's funny when he's angry! In battle, she's just as flippant as any other time, only in battle, it's okay to bop your victim on the head. She prefers floating to walking, and seems to maintain her concentration fairly well, despite taking almost nothing seriously. An all around smart allec, but she's good at what she does, though she has a soft spot for Rick, since he respects her talents. (Set by: Sprite2)
