our little bilingual hana-chan is now greeting people by bowing, especially if prompted by a "konnichi-wa." she watches equal doses of japanese and english children's videos and looks at books in both languages as well, so we hope she is off to a good start. hana loves cheerios, as can be seen here in this shot of her "cheerio bar / feeding station." at this point, cheerios are just another form of "mam'ma," japanese baby talk for food that hana also applies to anything that goes into her mouth. a shot of hana's pretty mommy, kozue. she is the best mommy in the world! (hey, how about a coffee mug that exclaims this very thought...now that's something we bet nobody's thought of yet)

hana actually said the word "grandpa" while clutching a photo of grandpa henry & grandma june the other day! her newest favorite video is called "o suwari dekitara hajimeyou," featuring the cuddly "poachy" giant dog character and the somewhat creepy "kaoru onee-san," sort of like the japanese equivalent of big bird and mr. rogers. i think you will agree that hana-chan has some nice rosy lil cheeks! and often dons fashionable headgear with grace and aplomb.
