today, the three of us went to beverly center, the big local shopping mall. hana seems to have no fear whatsoever of strangers: at the food plaza, she just walked right through crowds of people as if they were the red sea. we got her two new books, one a "first words" picture book, and the other, an ernie/rubber duckie bath book. however, as usual, she seemed more interested in the plastic bag and receipt than in the books!

on our daily walk around park labrea, hana actually ran up to us from behind and grabbed our hands so that she could walk between us. such a cutie! this morning, we caught her wiping baby powder off of the floor with her bib. she also claims that she does windows, but that remains to be seen.

as you can see in this shot to the right, we have a live-in streaker in this household. hana just got done playing with chong oh (2 yrs. old) and tobias (1 yr. old) on the park labrea putting green. she loves to pull out those flags! this morning, her hair was especially wild, so we took this shot as proof.

we had dinner at grandpa and grandma's place tonight. beef stew and the mets-cardinals game...and chasing hana all over arden (that's what we call my folks' place). hana is interested in EVERYTHING that comes her way...for about 2 minutes at a time. she is the most curious little baby we have ever seen, and seems to require less sleep than the average 13 month old tot, as her bedtime has recently edged later and later into the night. yesterday, we went to suehiro in little tokyo to satisfy a sudden, uncontrollable craving for tempura. the place was teeming with dull L.A. gen-X'ers who have typically "found" our beloved dump and dubbed it a hipster hangout...good grief.

wow! another breakthrough for our little hana chan! after kozue told hana to go get her elmo doll in the bedroom and bring it back, she scampered off by herself and not only brought back elmo, but also cookie monster! so this proves two things: one, hana definitely associates the word "elmo" with her elmo doll, and two, she knows the phrase "go and get ___ and bring it back." of course, labrador retrievers also have this capability, but hey, it's still progress! also, hana started playing around by saying the "word" MAHHH-MA while making a big spit bubble...perhaps not quite as impressive as the first stunt, but entertaining nevertheless.
