Congratulations to those of you who competed in the RSO Indoor Provincials. The number of competitors was down this year and disappointingly so given the hard work and effort that is involved in putting on this event.

There were a number of factors this year that contributed to the lower participation which I believe were:
1. The usual spate of illness & pre competition injuries.
2. The unfortunate situation involving 8 Wheels & Tri City
Clubs and events around the change of ownership issue
of the Forum. This sadly produced no indoor competitors
    from these clubs this year.
3. Key skaters were out of province during the meet and also
will be out of province for the national dates.
4. Skaters no longer competing in the indoor circuit.
5. Cross training for preparation for outdoors.
6. Some are not into indoor competition skating and enjoy
    a skating fitness workout.
7. Indifferent attitude of some skaters

RSO is able to benefit from government programs and initiatives within our province because we are active - all year. We have clubs, activities, competitions and  Provincial Championships. Through our member clubs we contribute much to our communities in skating opportunities for fun, learning and competition. Because of this we are part of the Ontario Sporting Community and qualify for government funding (sparse as it is) and some bursary programmes. For the Indoor Programme the culmination is the provincial championship and to mark the end of the season - the Canadian Championship. The pattern repeats itself although much more dynamically with the outdoor season where again we prepare ourselves at the club level plus extra individual or group training outside club hours to be ready for the season's many competitions including provincial and national championships, world championships and charity events. A sincere thank you to those of you who understand this process and commit to being full and productive members - be it through competing, attending practices, working on committees, instructing, coaching, volunteering. officiating and helping in the many ways that often go unseen. I really appreciate your support!
