The first of the 2002 RSO Inter-Club Meets took place this weekend in Cambridge, Ontario, Canada. The event featured skaters from the Scooters Speed Club and the Tri Cities Indoor Speed Club competing over distances ranging between 500m and 1500m. Jamie Mack dominated the Senior events over Peter Doucet, Eric Gee, and Beth Clarke. Herb Gayle was able to squeeze by Jacquie Raetsen. Herb fell at the end of the 700m race and slid off the course and onto the carpeted area. Ed Duncan, who responded really well to tips from his coach, was edged out by Carla Raetsen for his division. Lanny Totton was able to defeat Marylin Dykstra. Chelsea Parry dominated her younger division. The brat pack put on a very entertaining show as well. Click here for full results.

The best race of the event was the relay, in which skaters were paired by ability. Herb Gayle and Beth Clarke took the lead and never looked back, despite the efforts of Peter Doucet and Lanny Totton to reel them in. During the relay, Ed Duncan found himself on the floor during a missed attempt at a relay exchange.

The next RSO Inter-Club Meet will take place on February 23rd , 2002 at the same rink in Cambridge. The Tri Cities Speed Club did an excellent job hosting the event and providing volunteers and officials for the event. After the race, about 20 of the skaters, parents, and volunteers gathered at a restaurant for a meal. The Brat Pack was quite defensive about allegations involving love letters being sent to some people at the Jay Ingram Clinic. They denied all previous published allegations about sending love letters...and yet, at the restaurant...the letters were still being written and passon along.
