Saxophonist Jason Jones' solo debut CD is Jazz at it's best and features
seven all original tracks. Jasons' distinctly individual sound resulting
from diverse
studies in composition and 10 years of Jazz playing experience have
resulted in
one of the best NZ Jazz albums for many years.
An experienced performer who belies his years, Jason Jones has appeared
with
the 'Rodger Fox Big Band' (American tour 1994), the 'George Chisholm
Quintet',
the 'Murray McNabb Group', 'Jazz in the Present Tense' and the "Kim
Paterson
Quintet' More recent performances have been as leader of his own trio
or quartet.
Recordings that have featured Jason Jones include 'URBANISM', 'JAZZ
IN THE
PRESENT TENSE' and a guest appearance on trumpeter Kim Patersons' "IMPENDING
JOURNEY'. All these recordings were nominated for the RIANZ Jazz Award.
As a music graduate from Auckland University with post- graduate studies
in the
USA, Jason Jones is well equipped to present intelligent compositions,
played by a beautifully balanced group which includes, from Australia,
Drummer;
NICK McBRIDE, Acoustic and Electric Bassist; MATT GRUEBNER, Pianists;
KEVIN FIELD and ARON OTTIGNON and appearances by KIM PATERSON (flugelhorn)
and African percussionist KOJO OWUSU (djembe).
