Press Release: BUCKLE - Cut Lips

In high spirits after winning the Best Jazz Album at the 1998 RIANZ Awards, THE NEW LOUNGEHEAD's Godfrey de Grut and fellow Sax man Chris White (Rodger Fox Big Band), have recorded a selection of 5 tracks in a jazzy, trip-hop vein under the alias of BUCKLE.

The BUCKLE project also called on the formidible skills of LOUNGEHEAD bass player "Chip" Mathews and SLUMBER beat technician Graham Cope, as well as a range of stellar musicians from the Auckland club circuit.

Much of the material on "Cut Lips" is from the repertoire of SLUMBER - Godfrey de Grut's working band who gig rregularly around Auckland.
SLUMBER enjoy a rapt following at gigs and recently presented a very smooth and seductive live-to-air on the BFM Jazz Show.

Chris White is currently based in London, but when THE NEW LOUNGEHEAD try their breaks over there next year, he and Godfrey plan to collaborate again on a follow-up BUCKLE album as a sideline to their other work.

"Cut Lips" continues the journey started by Nathan Haines "Shift Left" album - it's 'sneaky beats and twisted jazz flavours' blending into a sensuous and seamless soundtrack for the "inner city cafe lifestyle".

Priced at only $19.95 (rrp), with over 34 minutes of music "Cut Lips" is a steal.
