Night Whispers by Judith McNaught
"Night Whispers" is a fantastic story
about a police woman in a small city in
Florida. Her name is Sloan Reynolds. Sloan goes about her life
with little
pretension, even though she is a hero in her community after
saving the life
of a little boy. Little does she know her life is about to change
forever with
one phone call. Her father and sister left Sloan and her mother
when Sloan was
a small child. Sloan knows about the other half of her family
only from the
society pages covering Palm Beach included in the Sunday edition
of her towns
newspaper. Her father calls to invite Sloan to his home, telling
her he had
recently had a heart attack. At first Sloan adamantly refuses,
only changing
her mind when FBI agent Paul Richardson informs her that her
father and his
business associates are suspected of criminal activities. Sloan
then agrees to
visit her father, Paul acting as her boyfriend as she poses as an
interior
decorator. While in Palm Beach she and Paul will look for
evidence against her
father while Sloan gets to know her sister, Paris, and her
great-grandmother
Edith. She also meets Noah Maitland, the owner of a multinational
corporation
and the sexiest man she has ever encountered. Unfortunately, Noah
is also a
suspect in the FBI investigation. When a murder is committed and
Sloan is the
first suspect the lies begin unraveling and the truth is more
horrifying than
fiction. Trust and love are nearly destroyed until the shocking
story is
told.
Fans of Ms. McNaught will remember Paul Richardson as the lead
detective
chasing Zack Benedict in "Perfect". "Night
Whispers" is a wonderful book in
the unbeatable style we all know as Judith
McNaughts'.
