Thresholds come in a variety of shapes. The shape represents the presence or absence of hearing loss, and the severity and type of hearing loss if it is present.

The audiologist incorporates additional diagnostic information with the data on the audiogram in order to develop a diagnosis and a treatment plan if deemed necessary and/or appropriate.
