An audiogram is a chart on which the hearing sensitivity of an individual is plotted.

Measurements for an audiogram are taken by an audiologist or audiometrist, preferably in a soundproof booth, so background or environmental sounds are eliminated.

These professionals use an electronic machine called an audiometer to measure the ability to hear tones at different levels.

The audiologist or audiometrist uses switches and dials on the audiometer to present a variety of tones. The individual responds to the tones they hear. The audiologist or audiometrist marks the results of this testing procedure on the audiogram.
