Advisor Assignment

This combination FOCEXEC and COBOL program takes all of the fun/chore out of assigning students to advisors. Check out this case study for information on my theory behind using COBOL in conjunction with FOCUS. This process selects all students who currently do not have an advisor assigned and makes that determination based upon an input assignment data file. Batch transactions are then created to update screen 119. Also included is a FOCUS program that creates a report off of the input assignment data file. In addition, you will need to set up a DECODE file to translate the major value if you do not want to use the default DBD translations.
