After fighting Rival head east back to New Bark Town and into the lab. The police man will then ask you if you got his name and you should name him RIVAL.

After entering the name the Police Man will leave and Pro.Elm will get excited over the egg, takes the egg off you and then leaves you to go out to do the first Gym Leader(Falkner).
On your way out of the lab Pro.Elm's Aide will give you 5 PokéBalls to go out and catch Pokémon, if you are not sure on how to catch Pokémon Dude will tell you on your way into Route 29.

Falkner's Gym
It should be easy to spot Falkner's Gym becaue it will have a sign outside on it saying Pokémon Gym Leader: Falkner and also a big sign on the front of the building saying GYM.

There are two trainers in the Gym but they have weak bird Pokémon, and should be fairly simple to beat. Next it is Falkner, he has:
Falkner
Pidgey - Tackle, Gust and Mud Slap.
Pidgeotto - Tackle, Gust and Mud Slap.

After you defeat Falkner you will receive the Zephyr Badge

Extras
The extras things in Violet City that you need to know are:
The Onix called 'Rocky'

In a house in Violet City a boy will trade a Bellsprout for his Onix called Rocky, so in this part you will need a Bellsprout if you want to trade, the advantages are that it will gain x1.5 more EXP. but the disadvantages are it won't obey you until you get a Badge that'll let it obey you.

Getting the Egg back

As soon as you leave Violet City Gym you will get a phone call from Pro.Elm saying that the Egg is with his Aide at the Violet City Pokémon Centre, and you should go there and pick it up.
Just answer his Aide's question "Yes" and it's all yours, after so many steps the Egg will hatch into Togepi, but it's only level 5.
