Oct 07 Fleet Newsletter

Hi All-

A small group of us met last week to discuss the plan for SFA in 2007-
2008. It does appear that we have a small but dedicated group of
sailors interested in sailing IC's this winter, so we are going to
give it a go. Here is what we decided:

• We will sail on Duxbury Harbor out of the Duxbury Bay
Maritime School again this season. There is interest in Scituate in
having us return to there, but this "interest" has not translated
into even one more person who would commit to sailing an IC with us
if we returned. As far as I can tell it's really just observers who
would like to see us back out there on the water on Sundays as they
drive by or sit in the bar drinking a cold one and watching
football. John Laiosa had some good conversations with the
Harbormaster about using the parking lot and the ramp as well as with
a representative from the Satuit Boat Club about using their
facility. We got the green light on the parking lot/ramp but the SBC
ultimately decided that they were unwilling to let us use their
clubhouse under any circumstances. Thanks to John for investigating
this. It sounds like there may be options for the use of other
facilities in Scituate in future seasons as work on the waterfront
there is completed, and I understand that some renovation projects
planned at DBMS may necessitate our getting out of there for at least
a season at some point soon, so who knows what the future holds.
Given this scenario, we decided that it would be best to remain where
we are rather than risk losing even one boat from our diminished
fleet by moving. So that's the deal for this year.

• In order to maximize participation, and because we will
likely struggle to field a weekly RC, we decided to propose an every
other week schedule, designed to roughly coincide with the high tide
days in Dux. I am going to be looking at the tides in the next few
days and proposing a schedule. Stay tuned. We will start at the end
Oct-early Nov as usual.

• We will have the SFA boats available for general use, and
hopefully this will encourage some of the local sailors from DHS to
join us.

• There will be several opportunities to travel up to Winthrop
and down to Hyannis for some larger fleet events. More info on these
dates to come.

That's about it. I am looking forward to this season, and I hope you
are too.
