it seems like this slick-looking piece of pink vinyl has been making some people pretty happy. i have seen all four songs pop up in mp3 format all over the internet, and the band is currently touring with the locust, get hustle, fast forward, and my name is rar-rar (side note: HOLY SHIT! COME TO OHIO!).
forgive me - back to the music. it is quite good. this is some of the most solid dance-oriented punk i have heard. nice, crisp, clean - like gang of four without all the phenomenal originality and subversiveness. in fact, the one problem with this is that it is completely derivative. if you are a fan of the retro garbage that is being peddled so shamelessly in today's current musical climate, you might have no problem with this, but we sincerely hope that you're not. so the question remains: can one reasonably expect to enjoy this without dishonoring his or her family?
i think the rational music fan would say no. in true indie-snob form, the moving units would be condemned to the realm of novelty retro acts whose names shall go unmentioned.
but this is a hell of a lot of fun to listen to. i shudder to resort to the argument of the andrew w.k. fans of the world, but the enjoyment factor of this record is tough to beat. so much for rationality. i find that these four tunes meet and exceed my daily value of hedonistic funkiness, and for now, that is all that matters. gold standard labs
