Many people have queried how Ramirez can be in the Highlander cartoon which is set in the future when he was killed in the first movie (Highlander 2, in which he comes back to life and then dies again is generally considered apocryphal. Mind you, so is the cartoon!) The answer is that Ramirez in the film and Ramirez in the cartoon are not the same character. The movie character, played by Sean Connery, is named Juan Sanches Villa-Lobos Ramirez and is chief metallurgist to the king of Spain. He becomes the mentor of Connor Macleod. The cartoon character, however, gives his name as Don Vicente Ramirez and is the Grande of Spain. Two immortals with the same surname? If this seems a little implausible, just count how many immortal Macleods there are! Movie Ramirez tells Macleod that he is originally Egyptian, and early drafts of the script give his given name as Tak Ne. I have a theory that the cartoon Ramirez was mentor to the movie Ramirez who then took his name as if he had been adopted. This would account for their similarities in character and style.
This figure is my attempt to make an animated version of the movie Ramirez. He is a repaint of the animated figure. I opted to make his outfit as simple as possible, in the animated style. The colour is fairly close to the colour he wears in the film while the brown leather boots, gloves and belt were fairly arbitary. The hair is painted matt grey, as are the beard, moustache and eyebrows. This figure retains all articulation including the battling arms action. |
