When Marvel Comics was awarded the liscence to publish Star Trek stories, they launched quite a few titles at once, including this original creation, Starfleet Acadamy! The SA comic told the sotry of DS9's Nog at the acadamy, and here we have his best friend, Matt Decker (and yes, if I recall correctly, he was a descendant of the guy from the Motion Picture.)
Matt here was made from a SeaQuest Lucas figure, with the likness of the late Jonathan Brandis, which I felt was perfect for Matt. The uniform itself is basicalluy just a repaint, although I did built up the bottom of the trousers, as he was wearing shorts. The original figure was wearing a big jacket, and as this was one of my fairly early customs, I didn't really feel confident enough to attempt removing it, so I just painted it and added the Starfleet symbol on the back to make it fit in....I think it works! Although this figure is nothing special, I'm quite happy with how he turned out in the end. |
