Summary: In May 1993, Tru Davies (Eliza Dushku) and her family suffered a tragedy -- the death of her mother Elise (Sherry Thoreson). At the funeral Tru hears her mother speak to her forgiving Tru for not helping her. To make matters worse, Tru witnessed the murder of her mother. Ten years later after Tru graduates from college, she accepts a job working the night shift at the local city morgue. Tru has a brother named Harrison (Shawn Reaves) who likes to gamble and gets hospitalized because of a beating he received after a card game went bad. Tru's sister Meredith (Jessica Collins) has a drug problem. Tru realizes that Meredith's problem has resurfaced. During Tru's first shift at the morgue, she hears the voice of Rebecca Morgan (Hudson Leick) -- a recently deceased young woman -- asking for help. Tru goes back in time, one day, in order to prevent Rebecca's death which looks like a homicide. Two of Rebecca's ex-boyfriends Elliot Winters (Callum Keith Rennie) and Aaron McCann (John Haymes Newton) are Tru's prime suspects. Tru prevents both of these men from killing Rebecca. She also helps her brother Harrison out of a jam -- thereby preventing his beating. Likewise, Tru disposes of Meredith's drugs. In a final twist, Rebecca's death is, in actuality, a suicide. Tru must race against time to save Rebecca's life. She convinces Rebecca that life is worth living. Meredith does some more drugs in the rest room of a local eatery. At the grave side of her mother, Tru wonders if her mother has a connection to Tru's new powers. Tru also wonders if said connection will, in some way, redeem Tru, herself, as well.
