“The First Commandment”

Plot Outline:
On a rescue mission, SG-1 discovers that the SG-9 commander, Captain
Jonas Hanson (William Russ), believes himself to be a god. The people on the planet are
under the mistaken impression that Hanson is a god as well. Hanson is also Captain
Carter’s former fiancée. He sends a group of followers to kidnap Lt. Conner (Roger R.
Cross). Carter is captured when she tries to stop one of Hanson’s men from beating one
of his followers. Hanson is forcing “his” people to construct a temple in his honor. He
also forces Carter to fix a Goa’uld shield device which would protect them all from the
harsh rays of the planet’s sun. O’Neill goes to rescue Connor while Teal’c and Dr.
Jackson goes in search of the second Goa’uld shield device. O’Neill and Connor are
captured. Hanson opens the Stargate with a connection to Earth in hopes to send O’Neill
and Connor back to the SGC without transmitting the IDC (Iris Deactivation Code) code
to open the Iris. However, Hanson is thrown through the Stargate when he fails to make
the shield device work. SG-1 manages to make both shield devices work, thusly, allowing
for safe exploration of the planet during daylight hours. à Plot Outline by Chad C.

Actor Reference:
- The character of Frakes, from this episode of Stargate SG-1, may be a “tip of the hat” to actor Jonathan Frakes who portrayed Commander William T. Riker on the television series Star Trek: The Next Generation (1987 to 1994). Frakes also reprised the role in the four ST: TNG feature films listed as follows: Generations (1994), First Contact (1996), Insurrection (1998), and Nemesis (2002). Frakes also directed First Contact and Insurrection.
Title Reference à From the Bible:
· The First Commandment was given to Moses by God along with nine (9) other commandments. Moses scribed the words of God in Hebrew for the Bible book Exodus. Dr. Tom J. Chalko interprets the First Commandment thusly: Do not take any gods before me. Do not represent me by the use of carved statue or picture. Do not take to a knee in front of or worship statues or pictures.
