Summary: A young Jonathan Archer (Marty Davis) paints a model spaceship while talking to his father Henry (Mark Moses). Thirty years later, a Klingon named Klaang (Tommy "Tiny" Lister, Jr.) is running through a corn field in Broken Bow, Oklahoma after his ship crashes. He is being chased by two yellow--skinned aliens called Suliban. Klaang seeks refuge in a grain silo, and the Sulibans follow him. Klaang jumps out of the silo and destroys it. A farmer named Moore (Ron King) shots Klaang. During an inspection of the Enterprise's hull, Captain Jonathan Archer (Scott Bakula) is called to Starfleet Medical. After a heated discussion over Klaang's life or death, Captain Archer and his crew make final preparations to take Klaang back to his home world. After the Enterprise launches, a Suliban named Silik (John Fleck) talkes with a Shadowy Humanoid Figure (James Horan). He tells Silik to find Klaang. Archer and Dr. Phlox (John Billingsley) talk about life on Earth. Archer tells Phlox that he has eighty hours to get Klaang back on his feet. The Enterprise crew begin their lives on board the ship. Ensign Sato (Linda Park) gets jumpy when the ship goes to warp. After Klaang wakes up, Archer and Sato try to speak with him to no avail. The power is cut off throughout the ship, and a group of Suliban kidnap Klaang. Archer orders an analysis of the sensor readings just before the ship lost power. After Archer and T'Pol (Jolene Blalock) have a discussion, she helps Charles Tucker (Connor Trinneer) with the sensor analysis. During an autopsy of a Suliban, Dr. Phlox discovers that they have been genetically altered. The Enterprise sets course for Rigel X--the last known port of call for Klaang before he headed for Earth. After arriving on Rigel X, the crew search the planet for evidence of Klaang's mission. Archer and Sato are taken captive by a group of Suliban. Along with T'Pol and Tucker, Sato is placed in a detention cell while Archer talks with a female Suliban named Sarin (Melinda Clarke). Klaang was carrying a message from Sarin to his people. She tells Archer about the Temporal Cold War. Laser blasts ring out, from enemy Suliban, and Sarin is killed. The crew escape the laser fire, without harm, and they search for the shuttle pod in a blizzard. In an effort to rescue T'Pol, Archer is shot in the leg. T'Pol takes command of the Enterprise. The young Archer and his father fly the model of the spaceship. While in the decontamination chamber, Tucker convinces T'Pol to search for the Suliban ship. They track the ship to a Class Seven Gass Giant. After fine tuning the sensors, they find the ship's trail. A recovered Archer orders the Enterprise into the gass giant. Silik talks to the Shadowy Humanoid Figure again, and the figure tells him he can not let the Klingons have Sarin's message. The Enterprise finds the Suliban Helix--a structure made up of many small sphere-like Suliban ships. The Enterprise captures one of the ships in a fire fight. Ensign Mayweather (Anthony Montgomery) trains Archer and Tucker on how to fly the Suliban ship. They go on a mission to rescue Klaang. Meanwhile, the Enterprise is hit by many energy charges fired by Suliban ships. Archer and Tucker bring Klaang back to their captured ship. Archer sets a device that disrupts the energy field holding the helix together. He is left behind while Tucker and Klaang return to the Enterprise. Archer searches the helix, and he finds the room where the Shadowy Figure talks to the Suliban. T'Pol and Tucker argue over if they should rescue archer. Archer and Silik get into a fight. After the fight, Archer is transported to the Enterprise. They return Klaang to his home world. The message Klaang carries is hidden within his DNA. The crew of the Enterprise is ordered to continue their mission. Archer asks T'Pol to remain on the Enterprise. The model ship flies across the sky, and the Archer's are happy.
