The Spacesuit of
Tomorrow
Frank R. Paul's painting
of astronauts during an EVA above Jupiter originally appeared in
the magazine Science Fiction Plus.
In The Complete Book of Outer Space, it
is used to
illustrate an article by Dr. Donald H. Menzel. The article
explains some of the features
which fully functional spacesuits must have. In 1953, when the
article was written,
the closest thing to spacesuits like this were the pressure suits
worn by jet pilots during
high altitude test flights. (To see a color
reproduction of this painting, visit the "Spacesuits" section on the
home page of Dreams of Tomorrow.)
