The model is built straight Out of the Box although I may add a sci fi looking antenna later on the top of the backpack. The model is painted in Testors Metalizers (base coat and weapon), Tamiya Black Green, Tamiya Dark Sea Grey, and oils for the pilot's head. Weathering was done with table salt for simulating chipped paint and a whitewash of white pastel/water mix. One shoulder pauldron was left bare 'metal' to reflect hasty field repairs. Rust on the plumbing is pastel dust. Decals were applied over flat paint with Future.

Model here is primed and has final seam filling still to be dealt with. Also, the hip and shoulder pauldrons need to be added.

Here is a closeup shot, showing part of the pilots face (done in oils) and the laser weapon which looks a lot like a Nikon 35mm Camera with Telephoto Lens???

With construction complete (save permanent attachment of head, helmet and
backpack for now) I moved on to painting. Using a technique in the July
2003 FSM, I used salt to simulate chipped paint. First, a good coat of a
metal color. I used Testor's metalizer aluminum but that turned out to be
a mistake. The smooth surface didn't wet easily, the importance of which
becomes apparent. Next time I will use Tamiya flat aluminum. Now the
technique. Wetting the areas to be chipped with water, I applied random
patterns of salt. I let this dry and then hosed on Tamiya Olive Drab (not
real O.D. but its simulates a dark German green well such as that found on
Stukas). I forgot to paint the helmet and pack back, not attached and
laying off to the side (getting senile). after the paint was dry I took a
toothbrush to the salt and viola...
