There are three main types of diabetes: type 1, type 2, and gestational diabetes. Type 2 is the most common form of diabetes. It is a disease where blood glucose levels are above normal and the body does not produce enough insulin. Insulin is very necessary for the body to use sugar because sugar is the basic fuel for cells. The indvidual who has this type of diabetes would have a very difficult time converting food into energy. This disease is a life long condition and it can happen to people of all ages. People who have a higher risk of getting type 2 diabetes are the Aboriginal, Hispanic, Asian, South Asian, and the African descent. If someone is 45 years and older and is overweight, iit would be a good idea for him or her to get tested as well.

As the years pass with diabetes, high blood glucose would damage the nerves and blood vessels of the body. The complications could lead to heart disease, kidney disease, blindness, foot and skin complications, depression, etc... To delay or prevent these dangerous impediments, one must keep their blood glucose to normal. In addition, they should keep a moderate diet and excercise too.

If a person were to have type 2 diabetes, some possible symptoms would be an increase in thirst and hunger, fatigue, weight loss, and erectile dysfunction. If type 2 diabetics did not take proper care of themselves, it could lead to many problems such as death.
