A Word about the Cost of This Summer Enrichment Program

I have been a classroom teacher for many years.   As a teacher, I constantly work to provide the best possible learning experiences for my students, despite the many limitations of the classroom environment.

I began this program back in 2000 because I wanted to provide the most enriching and safe summer science experience possible; one that maximizes learning and enjoyment; one with fewer learning limitations than the traditional classroom. In short, one that I would send my own children to without hesitation.

As you reflect on the cost of this enrichment program, consider what is required in order for this program to take place.

  • 250 hours invested to initially develop this program
  • 100 hours in preparation each year prior to the first day of the program
  • Marketing costs
  • Transportation costs for over 100 miles of related driving before and during the program
  • Facilities rental that supports our local parks
  • Insurance
  • Materials costs for science activities students will make and keep
  • Photocopying costs so students can process learning activities using graphic organizers for greater retention
  • Staffing costs--hand-picked certified instructors who love science and nature, love working with children, and don't mind being paid less than their usual classroom pay
  • Science store--your child will earn tickets for participation and behavior that they spend on the last day to buy cool stuff!
  • Misc. administrative costs

As with any business, each year costs go up.   I continue to look for ways to keep the price as low as possible without sacrificing the quality of the program.

I want this week-long summer enrichment experience to be among your child's treasured experiences of youth.   I want parents to remember this experience as one where the care and safety of their most precious treasure was never in doubt.
