SCIENCE * BIOLOGY * CHEMISTRY*
Dear Student:

This web-based science course is designed to provide you with a broad range of information about Natural Sciences, particularly Biology and Chemistry. The web-based hybrid course  provides 24/7 access to the materials that you need to study. You are encouraged to study the topics ahead of time and prepare yourself before the topics are taught in classroom.

You are expected to create a portfolio in a three ring binder of all your works, including, class notes, handouts, homework, lab work, quizzes, tests, and your own notes that you may take from lecturres or web-based resources. THe binder allows you to add, remove or replace pages to and from your protfolio.

You ought to make a table of content at the beginning of your portfolio binder, with four columns on it as it is shown under the science link. Include date, subject, points you earned and page number in the table of content of your portfolio. As you add new pages to your protfolio, you are expected to make a record of it in the table of content of your protfolio.

You will earn your grade on a daily basis. Up to 50% of your grade comes from the portfolio, therefore, it is recommended that you go to work early and start building your portfolio right away. The remaining 50% of your grade will go to quizzes, tests and exams that you take.

Hundreds of pages will be accumulated by you in your portfolio as if you are writing a book. Your organizational skill is needed to keep track of the work. You are expected to apply your, reading/writing and math skills as well as your artistic talent to prepare your science portfolio.

Each day as you complete your work, you will earn points that will translate into grade points in your teacher's grade book. You are responsible to keep track of your portfolio work and recording your earned points in the table of content. Your teacher will inspect your portfolio on a random but regular basis to ensure you are doing your work regularly. If you have updated your work then you will earn a grade (5 points/week) in teachers book each week. You are not at all encouraged or expected to be a perfectionist, but rather you need to complete your work daily. Do not be a perfectionist because it leads to procrastination which eventually leads to paralysis.

Please make sure that all your notes, drawings, journals, etc. have a margin of one inch all around.  Part of your portfolio grading will be based on the organization of your work, which requires uniformity and neatness.

Good Luck to you and hope you will have a pleasant experience during this course.
