Stargate SG-1

Stargate SG-1 - This show is probably the best Science Fiction series on television today. I say this because it has great actors (actresses), stories, special effects and background sets. The series is based on the movie 'Stargate' that Kurt Russell starred in. In Egypt in the 1920's archaeologists discover a large circular ring that is covered with mysterious symbols and is made of a metal not found on Earth. Now in the present scientists have figured out that this ring is a gateway. A Stargate. They can use this Stargate to instantaneously travel to other worlds. When this gateway is activated a wormhole is formed with another gate on another world. There are thousands of these gateways on other worlds. They were created by an unknown alien race eons ago. The Stargate is top secret and is located underground at Cheyenne mountain. I bet NASA would love to get their hands on one of these babies.

The main characters in this show are Colonel Jack O'Neill (Richard Dean Anderson), Dr. Daniel Jackson (Michael Shanks), Major Samantha Carter (Amanda Tapping), Teal'c (Christopher Judge) and General George Hammond (Don S Davis). Colonel Jack O'Neill is the commanding officer of the SG-1 team. His team is just one of the many teams that are exploring other worlds through the Stargate. He has a funny way of expressing himself sometimes. An example would be how he sometimes refers to the symbiont in Teal'c as 'Junior'. Dr. Daniel Jackson is a brilliant archaeologist who has great knowledge of past civilizations. This comes in handy on the different planets they visit because in the past the goa'uld relocated humans from many different times and cultures to other planets. Teal'c is a member of an alien species called the Jaffa. He has a small snake-like creature that lives inside of him. An infant goa'uld. This creature keeps him very healthy and has great healing powers. I believe that this creature will take over his mind and body if he is still carrying it when it matures. He used to serve one of the goa'uld whose name was Apophis. Major Samantha Carter is a beautiful and brilliant scientist who is an expert on how the Stargate works. Everything is strictly business between Colonel Jack O'Neill and Major Samantha Carter but I get the feeling that they would like their relationship to be different. General George Hammond is the commander of the whole Stargate project. He makes the final decision on everything and sometimes he has direct communications with the president of the United States.

The bad guys on this show are an alien race called the goa'uld. The goa'uld are snake-like aliens who inhabit the bodies of humans against their will. They are very intelligent and assume complete control of a human host once they are inside it. Thousands of years ago they came to Egypt and were worshipped as gods by humans. Sometimes their eyes light up.

Presently SG-1 and other teams are exploring other planets trying to form alliances with other peoples and trying to find advanced technology they can use against the goa'uld. They are also looking for a child that was born to two humans who were being used as hosts by the goa'uld. It seems that such a child would be born with all the knowledge of the goa'uld.
