I contracted a disease brought on by the profound NEED to posess a "Flattie" like the '42 my older brother had. As we all know, a flattie is a flat fender Willys Jeep produced during the 1940's. Anyway, I learned to drive in my father's '52 Jeep truck(so many years ago) and, due to that exposure, came down with a bad case of flat fender fever. No matter what I did I never have been able to get enough Jeep exposure.
I tried ignoring it at first. No good. I finally bought a 1946 CJ2A in high school and sold it a few years later (not too smart then). The fever never went away.
In 1967 I bought a 1966 CJ5. My wife, Sherilyn, and I drove it for years. We "sold" it to son Paul who really broke it in and made some much needed modifications.
Paul traded it to his older brother Todd for a Ducati (not too smart, takes after his dad). Son Todd has been introducing the CJ5, and the joy of Jeep'n, to the grandkids on the back roads of New Mexico.
Even though there was still a Jeep in the family, it wasn't really mine, and I wasn't driving or fix'n it or able to just sit and� look at it in the garage. There was this empty place in my life. Poor me. So in the summer of 2000 I began to "just look" for a Jeep. This tactic works well for a short time to convince the loving wife that a Jeep is "somewhere in the future". This provides ample time to rack up the coveted Willys Points that are required to make a purchase.
In February '01 I located a 1947 CJ2A that had gone through a body-off restoration. The owner had lost interest (???) and I bought the Willys after a few minutes of investigation. She had fresh paint, although not a stock color, and looked new. As it turned out she had a few problems. Hey, it's a Willys. But she was so close to perfect--6 volt system, round headlights and matching numbers, etc. I decided to complete the restoration, or as some would say "betterment".

DECEMBER 2003 UPDATE
I was at last able to give rides in the Willys on Thanksgiving Day 2001. What a thrill after not driving it most of the summer. She is now Pasture Green with Autumn Yellow wheels. New "smelly" canvas seat covers and summer top from Beachwood.
We also installed a pair of 1947 CA plates and a period AAA plate topper.

Terry (grapaterry) and Corey with CJ on it's 1st real 4WD outing in Last Chance Cyn. 100F (note A/C vent is open) and we lived to tell the story.
I'm looking for my Dad's old '52 Willys truck. Last seen in '70 in La Crescenta, CA with yellow paint, '49 flathead V8 and Timken rearend. Orig. color was dark green..
