Busy, busy...

(06/23/05)

Well, Father's Day weekend was fun. Mom did come down on Friday with her quilt group, but they were meeting for dinner at Taughannock Farms Inn, which is a bit of a drive for me... so we didn't meet until Sunday. Instead, Gibson and I went to see Madagascar, which was entertaining, but not especially good. Nothing spectacular, anyway. But then we went to dinner at Lucatelli's Ristorante... excellent food. They have a coffee menu. I've never been to a restaraunt with a coffee menu before! Quite a treat... we were both pretty coffee-buzzed after that.

So on Saturday, I visited my folks for Father's Day. Dad got the first season of M*A*S*H on DVD, and we sat and watched the first four or five episodes in one sitting. Really great show, if you've never seen it before. But I'd also picked up (for my own viewing) Bill Cosby: Himself on DVD, and we watched that and rolled on the floor laughing. The parents threw together some great meals, and it was just an all-around good afternoon.

Back in Ithaca, I'm waiting to hear anything from CSMA about when we're doing a counselor meeting, but I've been busy in the meantime. Gibson gave me another number to call for part-time work, so I called and got in touch with the lady. I'm now a sort of chauffeur. See, this lady and her boyfriend (she's from Florida, he's from Texas) want to see the area. Only problem is, she spent a while in a wheelchair a while back and hasn't driven in a while; he's a Vietnam vet with leg trouble who can't drive long distances. So they're hiring me to drive them around on weekends to wineries, local parks, and she mentioned Six Flags or the Renaissance Fair, too. I'll apparently drive her car, because they're both smokers. I don't want people to smoke in my car, thank you very much. Frankly, if they'd insisted, I wouldn't have taken the job. But I'm nervous... she said it's a '84 Cadillac. 1984? Good gracious, I turned 4 that year. That's the year Gibson was BORN. That's old for a car. But... it IS a Caddy...

Gibson's house-sitting for Willard and Dorothy Daetsch, members of First Pres. and also active in the Protestant Community. They have a big old farmhouse on a LOT of land up toward Danby, and actually invited Gibson to do a party or cookout or something up there while they are gone. So, she did. I brought the grill and some beef (yes, I gave it up, but there's an all-natural, grain-fed beef store in town. No chance of mad cow there!) and we had burgers, German potato salad (thanks Matt), salad (Gibson), and peach pie for dessert (Gibson). Ally and Larry came, too, and it was a great time. Great food and great folks! And a great game of bocce afterwards.

Other than that, it's been getting ready for the worktrip. Shopping to update our first aid kits, mainly. I still have to pack. We leave Saturday, and I'll try to get an update up before we leave. No promises, though -- you all know me.
