Dinah Buckle (1812-1865) was born on 4 May 1812 at Walsen-Le-Soken, Essex England.  The illegitimate daughter of Sarah Buckle, father unknown.

Dinah married Samuel Claydon on 15 October 1833 at Kirby-Le-Soken in Essex England when they were both 21.  They had four children born in England – Dinah (1834); Samuel (1837); James (1841); and Christiana (1845).

Samuel and his family emigrated to Australia on the ship Charlotte Jane arriving in NSW on 8 October 1848 as assisted immigrants.  On arrival they settled in the Mt Vincent area in the Hunter Valley and had four more children – Ellen (1848); Sarah Ann (1850); Martha (1852); and Henry

Dinah died on 6 December 1865 at Mulbring Creek aged 53.  Cause of death was haemorrhage and loss of blood.

Dinah is buried in the Church of England burial ground at Mt Vincent (pauper). Her obituary in the Maitland Mercury of Thursday 14 December 1865 read:  It is my duty to record the decease of an old and respected resident of the neighbourhood, which occurred on Wednesday.  Mrs Claydon was interred on Friday at the Church of England burying ground – a large number (considering the harvest season) comprising the mournful procession.
