Besides marching, shooting, and competing, cadets are also taught by the SNSI and NSI. Some of the knowledge that cadets must learn are the eleven General Orders to the Sentry, and the Chain Of Command. NS-1 cadets are to know general orders 1-5 and the chain of command. NS-2 and above are expected to know all eleven General Orders and the Chain Of Command. The top 25 cadets in academics compete in postal competitions including the SECNAV academic competition. The Academic team is awarded with a ribbon and a medal at the end of the year. Also the cadets with the Highest GPA in there NS (naval science) level are awarded with a medal and ribbon at Awards Night (honor cadet).
