Life story: Back in the day, Asuka and Yohji were partners. They were in the FORCE together. So, one day, Yohji and Asuka are running around doing their jobs and bad things happen. Then Yohji gets shot. He tells Asuka to leave without him. She kisses him good-bye and runs off. Then she gets shot about .5 seconds later. Way to go, Asuka. Yohji is heart-broken because that may be the one woman that he's ever truly loved. Then Asuka loses her memory and starts running with a bad crowd.
