We would like to add another dimension by sharing instructional strategies and resources you are finding particulary useful. Uganda Teachers Attend International ICT Workshops
=========================================================

* Mr.  Lawrence Senkubuge, one of the pioneer teachers of WorLD in Uganda and an ICT  coordinator at King's College Budo is in South Africa for an 8-week  Internship  on  3-Dimensional Imagery and Virtual Reality. The internship is taking place at Naledi 3-D factory. Naled 3D is a company that specializes in the innovation of simulating real life situations by use of complex modeling software. * Ms. Lucy Banda, coordinator Global Teenager Project attended a  2-week Johan Kooij Fellowship Training in the Netherlands form 4th to 14th February 2002. The workshop  focussed on Technical (ICT) training and project management/long term planning. * Mr. Moses Kafeero attended a 2-week  Africa-USA AIDSWEB Cultural Exchange On HIV/AIDS in Washington, DC, 14-28 th February 2002. Mr. Kafeero, together with teachers from Namilyango and Kings' college Budo has been working tirelessly on the WorLD Aids project involving students in investigating practical ways of responding to the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Africa using Information and Communication Technologies. The overall goal of the exchange was to expand and develop a model of Internet-based HIV/AIDS Education with African schools and U.S and support a dynamic and meaningful HIV/AIDS dialogue among US. and African educators and their students and peers worldwide. Local ICT Workshops
=========================================================
Professional Development  of teachers continues with school-based workshops. These are facilitated by school coorsindators and WorLD graduates.

Busoga College Mwiri
At Busoga College Mwiri there was  an ICT Teachers'  workshop 4-6 March, 2002.  The theme was 'ICT in the Classroom'  with emphasis on the use of the Internet and e-mail.  35 teachers out of a staff of 55 attended. The National Co-ordinator SchoolNet and the GTP Co-ordinator facilitated at the workshop together with our own teachers.

Gaba Community Church  School
Gaba  community Church school  held ICT sensitization workshops for teachers, students and community leaders from . The workshops were facilitated by Mr. Ayub Kalema Golooba, Mr. Allan Stevens from Sawtry community College and Mr. Timothy from UK.  Gaba community Church school  has  a nursery, an Infant center, a clinic, a primary school and secondary school,  and a community church. The teachers are very  enthusiastic to collaborate with teachers from Uganda and around the world. Their computer lab of  Pentium class computers is accessible to the community. They have installed timing software to enable them allocate time to users.

Ntare School
At Ntare School in western Uganda, there is serious training going on for students (100 in number) in computer skills and the response is very good, unlike before. Winfred, the ICT coordinator of the school attributes this increased interest to the fact that the school has recently been connected to the Internet. Training for this group will end at the close of this term and another will be recruited next term. Reports Winfred Mwebaza" <[email protected]>

Rotarian Vernon Baptiste visits Uganda Schools (30th Jan-4th Feb)
=========================================================
Rotarian Vernon Baptiste from the Rotary Club of Pasadena, California visited Ugandan schools to witness the school use of Information and communication technologies. His tour took him to Mengo Senior School, Nabisunsa Girls School, Makerere College Schools and Busoga College Mwiri. He interviewed teachers, students and administrators. He, together with renown reporter Victoria Wilson Dalla are making a documentary about the use of ICT in Uganda.

Mengo Senior School in International ICT Documentary

On 15th February 2002, Mengo Senior school students and teachers of ICT participated in an international ICT documentary being developed by IDRC (International development Research Center) Canada. The documentary is being developed by Mr. Roger Bill  of Sussex place Inc., from Newfoundland. <http://www.sussesplace.com>. WorLD Teacher wins The International Poet of Merit Award
=========================================================
Mr. Anthony Ndawula, a teacher at Makerere College School has won 'The International Poet of Merit Award'  after submitting a collection of his poems on The International Library of Poets website.  The award winning poem,  "The Rib" was reviewed by a jury of International poets. Mr. Ndawula has been invited to present his poetry and receive the  Award at The International Society of Poets' Spring Convention and Symposium to be held March 1-3, 2002, at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida.  Details: http://www.poetry.com/poetscorner/index.asp

International Cultural and ICT Exchanges.
=========================================================
There was once a fear among many that use of ICT would  create  an isolated world, where people will increasingly live an artificial life and forget about human contact. The skeptics are being proved wrong by the evidence of communities reaching out to each other and people establishing meaningful, value added relationships through ICT. Read on

Ntare School has just been hosting a group of 19 (nineteen) students and teachers for one week, from two secondary schools in Denmark, namely Rodovre Gymnasium < http://www.rg.dk> and Niels Steensens Gymnasium.  In December 2001, the Headmaster, Mr. Stephen Kamuhanda and three (3) teachers visited Denmark and established links with these schools and in turn an exchange program was opened. The main purpose of this trip was to exchange ideas and learn more from Uganda's education system reports, Winfred Mwebaze

On 21st February, Nabisunsa Girls' school recieved Mr. and Mrs. Berntsen who are visiting Uganda as a result of the School's collabortion with Ullern school. Mr. Berntsen is the Chairman of the riendship organisation  "Venner av Uganda " ( Friends of Uganda ). 'Our students had a lot to share with the couple', reports Kiganda A. <[email protected]>

The Chairman of the Computer club of Busoga College Mwiri, Mr. Wanyama Bernard <[email protected]> is spearheading an initiative to link the chairpersons of computer clubs around Uganda. Please send him the name and address of the chairperson of your school computer club.

Fifteen (15) students from King's College Budo will for two weeks from 4th -18th March be on a student exchange tour with a school in South Africa. They will see, learn and experience they way a school in South Africa operates. They will cover all aspects including the use of ICT in schools.
