.-The army of the Celestial Dragon-.
We, Cathayans are a proud people, since we resemble the Elves in many ways, we were the first men to speak, write and read and we are proud of that and our history stretches back into time, when the our cousins in the Old World were still barbarians, fighting amongst themselves with clubs.
We know ? unlike our elven teachers ? our weaknesses, we know our strength and toughness is much lesser then that of our cousins in the Old World. Instead, we have mighty armies, beautiful and terrible to see, thousand times larger then the ones from are cousins, so our armies do not depend on their strength, but on their tactics and discipline. We train every men who is born to handle a sword and fight aside his companion, because a Cathaian never fights alone, but always with a friend on his side to compensate our lack of strength and skill. We keep trying to enhance our fighting skills and not for the sheer joy of it, but because the prophecies say that there will come a day that everyone will have to fight together to beat the beasts of Chaos.
And finally the works of art we created are nearly as perfect as the Elves their works and when merchants from the Old World saw our pagodas and artworks for the first time, they taught they were created by the Elves. Indeed our art is our proud and that is why we always try to enhance our crafting skills, to create time after time more beautiful and better works, more resembling the ones of the Elves
The Cathaian leaders
Our leaders are the strongest and toughest of our kind and they are not chosen because of their family, but of their strength or tactical abilities. The strength of our leaders have brought us many victories in battle and we honour them because of that and of course we feel their loss, but we do not cry since his deeds should be remembered in joy and not in pain. Many of our leaders wear magical armour and weapons, which we made long before the Elves came and tell us what to do and they reflect our former strength, which we had before the Elves distracted our attention from the physical strength to the arts.

The Spellcasters
Our mages are chosen amongst the wisest men of our people and they get the privilege to study the rough energy that flows through nature itself. They draw this energy as a source of power for their devastating spells, which they cast on our foes. Every time such a spell is cast, we are happy they fight on our side and not on the one of the enemy.
In the north-east of our land lies the magical province of Chengu and many mages go to the Mountains of Heaven to study the the uncorrupted energy of nature.

Dragon Priests
The dragon priests are the link between our world and the spiritual dragon world. We often consult dragon priests for they can see into the realm of the spiritual dragons and sometimes the dragons reveal them thing which are only going to happen in a far future. In battle the priests use the stregth from the dragon realm to summon a shadow of a spiritual dragon to bring terror and confusion onto our foes.

Dragon invocation
The priest invoke a mighty dragon to fly over his enemies and bring destruction into their ranks.
Threath this as a magic missile with a range of 12?, the target suffers D6 S3 hits from the dragon flying over.
Militia
The core force of our armies consists out of normal men, who take up their weapons to defend their homeland. Of course these men get a military training where they learn to always work together, because the emperor Hou-Li has enforced an army reformation where one takes care of the defence and one of the attacking, doubling the chance of survival and doubling the strength and fighting value of our men. Due to this magnificent idea from one of our best emperors, fighting became possible for the normal me, because until then, war was an affair for the elite warriors with supernatural strength. This way of fighting does not only doubles the strength and the fighting value of our men, it also creates a team spirit, some kind of solidarity between our troops Of course this way of fighting has also its bad sides, for example it makes a men alone useless in battle whiteout his comrade next to him.
We did not only reform our army for the hand-to-hand combat, also our missile troops are much more advanced then they were before, now we use a weapon which we saw being used by the Dark Elves on one of their ? slave nights?: the repeater crossbow this weapons doubles the chance of hitting and wounding an enemy and in addition to this weapon, our archers also work in pairs, giving the other more time to aim more precisely, while the other shoots their foes, so the rain of arrows is not interrupted by the longer aiming.

Chu-Ko-Nu?s
The Chu-Ko-Nu?s are chosen among the best archers from the army and are given a special hand-to-hand combat training so they become stronger and tougher then the normal archers and can protect the back of the army, if it is attacked. The Chu-Ko-Nu?s are well-known over whole Cathay for the bravery with which they protect the back of the army and because their hand-to-hand combat skills are equally to their shooting skills, something that is not so self-evident in a Cathaian army. The Chu-Ko-nu?s are the elite missile troops of our armies, but although they are elite, they appear in almost every army for they are the backbone of the missile troops. They are not only used as missile troops, sometimes they are placed in the front line and ordered to shoot their quivers empty and then charge. This shows that we Cathaian are not all the cowards the cowards the Old World men think us to be, we also know the importance of bravery and perseverance in battle.

Jade hound
The Jade hounds are ferocious animals with the strength of a thousand men, we tamed these beasts in the early ages and since then, they serve as temple guards, they have allways fullfiled their job better then any other guard we could wish, it is almost as if they feel the importance of their task. These animals represent the silence and harmony of the gods, they guard solemnly the gates of our temples and no-one will pass unless the temple priests. In times of trouble, we unleashen these dogs on our enemies, who are torn to shreds by these beasts in their anger. The task to guard and raise these beasts is an incredible dangerous task and so is left to the best beastmasters we have, because they are hard to handle and only the best stand a chance to raise them properl. The greatest concentration of jade hounds is in Chengu for they live in the mountains and have always been attracted to magic. The Jade hounds are believed to be the animals from the Old Ones, before they came to the Warhammer world and are therefore honoured in whole Cathay.

Alchemists
The order of alchemists hails from the city of Shang-Yang where an old man discovered that with the right ingredients, a potion could be used in battle. Alchemists are not common in our armies, except perhaps for the armies of Shang-Yang, where alchemists play a prominent role. From the discovery of potions in battle until now, much has changed, not only there are now different kinds of potions, there is also much changed in who uses the potions, in the older times, alchemists were old and wise men, who were competing with each other of which potion was the most effective, but now there are some alchemists who sell their potions to younger men and where the alchemists used to stand behind the lines, confusing the enemies with their potions-s, they now charge with the rest of the army when the enemy comes closer.

Scouts
Our armies do not only consist out of proud men who fight in the front line or our of archers who stay behind our lines and shoot, we also have specially trained troops who sneak behind the enemy lines to attack them from where they least suspect. These scouts were first only used in Xuzin, but when we in the rest of Cathay saw how efficient they were in their wars against the hobgoblins, we also started to train these units and they are a great help to us nowadays. These men are highly respected by the other Cathayans since it is practically suicide to attack the enemies from their back, sometimes the scouts are caught and they are killed before they can do a thing. The scouts usually fight in dispersed formations and their task is to attack the enemies from the back, confusing them and foul up the strategies from the enemies. The scouts are chosen among the smaller men who are as skilled with the bow as with the sword since they will need both of them for a chance on survival. The scouts are trained in elite barracks, where a Xuzin master teaches them the tricks of Disguise, camouflage and sneaking around enemy lines.

Chiang-Hu swordmasters
The Chiang-Hu swordmasters are a unit of elite swordsmen trained in the famous dojo of Dae Han in Chengu. These swordsmen are taught to act with lightning fast movements and they when they attack they leap high into the air and land with a devastating blow of their equally famous swords. These swords are specially designed for the swordmasters and thanks to the ancient process, only known by the personal smiths of the swordmasters, their swords slice through stone and through the heaviest armour as it was butter. The movements of the swordmasters are all graceful and beautiful to see, these men do not run and walk like normal people do, they leap high into the air and it is almost as they fly, this whole movement, from the jump to the landing , forms one beautiful sequence of flips and moments they float on the air currents and when you see them, you know they truly are masters.

Monks
The monks are the most skilled warriors in our proud armies in the use of martial arts. The monks were long ago divide into three separate ways of thinking, each with their own traditions and each of them with their own secrets. These three different brotherhoods were founded by the three sons of Chan-su-Wang, hundreds of years ago, their names were Taj, Kung and Arji. Their father lived in harmony with everything around him and he had mastered the three fighting styles, but when he tried to teach these styles to his sons, all their sense of harmony went lost and each of them specialised in one way of fighting and they forgot the other styles. Chan tried to bring his sons back together, but all of his tries were hopelessly lost.
Taj, the razor-sharp
Taj was the youngest of the three sons and he had to make up something, so he chose for the more aggressive style. For this purpose the keen edge of a sword is perfect, Taj?s philosophy was that if you fought passive you could not achieve anything, so you had to drop your defence and put everything in the strength of you attack.
Kung, the defender
Kung was the middle son an he always acted more carefully and passive then his brothers. This attitude is also reflected in his way of fighting, you should take care of your defence before trying to attack. That is why Kung chose a staff to fight with, because with this weapon you can defend as well as attack.
Arji, the cyclone
Arji was the oldest of Chan?s sons and he chose the supreme fighting style, he did not use any weapons, but his bare hands and feet. His weapon was his own body, so he could combine many moves to create one flowing movement.

Rocket launcher
The rocket launchers were invented in the province of Shantun, the people there were searching for a new way to cut trees and they accidentally discovered gunpowder, this new power was highly appreciated by the Mikasu, but since the trees were too hard damaged, they used it in their armoury with a deadly efficiency. Even now, the best rocket launchers are produced in Shantun and their engineers are famous in the whole empire. They use the rocket launchers for entertainment on their yearly celebrations as for war in their deadly rocket launchers. These deadly machines shoot explosive devices at our enemies, which flee in fear when they see these massive explosions. Unlike the warmachinees of other races, the rocket launcher is easy to transport and therefore our enemies are often surprised by the great manoevrability of these deadly machines. These magnificent machines have broken many foes in battle and they have proved to be very useful in the many wars that rage our empire in these cruel times.

Monkey Warriors
The monkey warriors are strange creatures who live in the Mountains of Heaven and in smaller communities in the Thunder Mountains. The monkey warriors were always loyal allies to us and in battle they fight with much more strength then our men. The fury with which they defend the earth they have sworn to protect is litle seen, even in battle and their determination is unbelievable. These monkey warriors used to be normal men, but they left all menish ideas far behind them and as they became one with nature, they grew appart from other humans, but now the monkey warriors and humans come closer to eachother and they fight aside in battle, as long as we respect nature.

Imperial Guard
The imperial guard is the most elite of all our regiments these are the strongest, tallest and most skilled men, chosen from over the whole empire to guard the city of Xizang and our divine emperor who lives there. To join the imperial guard is the greatest honour you can receive and many men come from over whole the empire if there is even the slightest chance they can join the imperial guard. The weapon carried by the imperial guard is the glaive, a sort of spear we used long before the Elves came and learnt us how to make swords and now, with the techniques the Elves taught us and our old knowledge of glaives, we make the strongest and most elegant two weapons ever made, except perhaps for the Elven swords of Hoeth. The current captain of the imperial guard is Chao-Lang, a brave men from the province of Shantun, but he ha laid his axe to rest and taken up the naginata to serve the emperor.

Horsemen
The main force of our cavalry consists out of the proud Takeda, young and proud men who ride nimble and swift horses, flanking our enemies. The Takeda are light armoured and fight with spears instead of lances, because for them it is more important to move fast and be able to manoeuvre freely to ?sting? the enemy, rather then delivering crushing blows. This cavalry also practices much more on riding skills then on their fighting abilities, because it is their task to attack fast and retreat before the enemy gets a chance to do anything. The yari cavalry are, as the main force of our armies are, normal men who go to war to defend their beloved country an so they fight as determinate as fully trained soldier.

Dragon lances
The dragon lances are the strongest unit in our armies and their name comes from the impact of their charge, which is as devastating as a fierce dragon. The dragon lancers are also a n elite unit, not everyone can join them, you must prove you are worth to join them by pushing over a barricaded and strengthened wooden wall, with one single charge, a test which requires much strength. Every city of Cathay has a regiment of dragon lances, which they can use when they are in heavy trouble, but the greatest force of them is stationed in Xizang and where other cities use them only when things are at their worst, Xizang can field these warriors along with the rest of their army, as they were a normal unit.

Tiger
The tigers are amongst the oldest and most respected animals in our empire, because their strength and bravery are legendary. It is for that reason we use them in our armies, of course not every Cathaian can handle such beasts, every tiger has his own beastmaster, who raised the tiger from when he was born. These beastmasters have a strong band with their tigers and the tigers do almost everything their master orders them to do. In battle the tigers attack ferocious with their claws an teeth and their enemies are easily torn apart. The training of these animals is long and exhausting for both tiger and beastmaster, but when the training is finished both are tougher and ready for battle and their band has becomen even stronger.

These animals are hard to control and therefore they will attack th beastmasters if there is less then one beastmaster left for each three tigers. Work out attacks as normal, the beastmasters are obliged to fight the tigers as well, to defend their own lives.
Skirmishers
Under our soldiers, there are also men who fight more ceremonial then the average unit, these men are the skirmishers. They are soldiers who prefer to fight with the old ninja techniques, which are rather individual then our other troops. Their fighting style is one of sneaking around our own units and barraging the enemies with throwing stars and other sharp blades. When they fight in close combat, they fight in a mystical way and they stab their small knives into their enemies. The skirmishers make us remember the ancient fighting techniques, which we used to use. When the skirmishers fight in a battle, they do not fight as units, they fight in a dispersed formation and they support our larger units by. The skirmishers were often peasants who fought guerrilla wars against Indians or Hobgoblins, who ravaged their country. With the army reformation of emperor Hou-Li they became a part of the army. The skirmishers are not known for their outstanding bravery or for their incredible strength in battle, they are just a welcome support and many generals think they are as important as the most elite of our units.
